What that needs is less sand and more rock

(I wonder though about that first line: On a morning from a polecat movie? That stinks!)

I don't know, Tophat,
There are times rocks, well-tumbled
can be comforting.

Jetée 08-12-2009 06:58 AM

I should have woken up at least an hour ago, and then, it would have been all gravy.

I'll be looking for that book later today.

people have been playing with sand for the longest time

and one of my favorite physics toys, the lissajou pendulum

which can make all sorts of cool patterns depending on how you urge the pendulum

Cool.
That reminds me:
There is a quarry close by where I live that gives away free sand on Saturdays.
The white white kind.
Thanks, Nick.

BadNick 08-12-2009 08:08 AM

ahhh, quarry! ring, that reminds me of this cool pic of white dust from a marble quarry:

ps: this is kind of cool: The Arni marble quarry where that picture above was taken is on a mountaintop in Italy and from all the marble dust collecting and washing down from the mountain top over the centuries, there is a "glacier of marble dust". The quarry is at the 5000-foot peak of Mt. Altissima, the same mountain from which many of Michelangelo's blocks of marble were extracted.

The quarry sits at the peak of Mt. Altissima. Over the centuries since the quarries began, the marble dust has flowed down and whitened the mountainside.

Good morning, Bob.

I have the biggest smile on my face right now.

Serendipitous Discoveries are one of life's greatest joys, especially combined with any opera tune, and nostalgia.

I don't know why I like to live in my box, when I far and above prefer living on the edge and learning something wondrous each day.

Hermitage has its perks.

Speaking of nostalgia- 1972.
My first live concert experience, of the rockage variety.

It's not really over yet...just the peak has passed. If it's clear out in the pre-dawn hours, go out and you will still see some of these. It's sort of like a bell shaped curve with the peak yesterday.

Ourcrazymodern? 08-13-2009 07:03 AM

Fish think they fell into heaven.

Tophat665 08-13-2009 07:11 AM

And now for something completely different

BadNick 08-13-2009 08:40 AM

that looks fishy to me

Pisces is symbolized by the two fishes trying to swim in opposite directions yet bound together by a golden cord, there is this dilemma of the meeting of two dimensions. There is the ordinary mortal side, which is used to facts and realities of a tangible kind. Eat, sleep, make love, and die - or bread and circuses, as the Romans used to say. And there is also a melusine - or, in the case of Pisces women, the masculine equivalent - which inhabits the dark depths, and which occasionally flashes its tail above the water, catching the sunlight, entrancing the mortal on the shore. How this meeting is dealt with is the story of each Piscean life. Some Pisceans simply follow the mermaid down, forgetting that human lungs cannot survive underwater.

I have been know to hold my breath forever...or at least for the longest time

Tophat665 08-13-2009 08:54 AM

Yah, pisces out the yin yang...

Don't hold your breath unti you turn blue, though. These guys have it covered.

Ourcrazymodern? 08-13-2009 09:43 AM

My wonderment comprises precum being clear & that I feel that way when fed.

I'd like to insert a bit of randomness here, because I don't know what conversations are brewing in here right now, so I'll drop this ice cube to make a splash.

hi Jetee. I wish you could taste the Ben & Jerry's ice cream I just had...well, only half the container. It's apparently a "new" flavor called Mission to Marzipan...spacey!...which is sweet cream ice cream with almond cookies and a marzipan swirl. Here's an ice cream toast to all of you....yummmmmm

Jetée 08-13-2009 07:36 PM

nice... here is one of my favs from Peru, which for some reason, has an inordinate amount of persons leaning towards the Asian culture within its borders. I know the country of Brasil has the second-highest concentration of Japanese descendants in the world, but I've been meaning to research why Peru has so many Spanish-Chinese.

Anyway on with the picture.. which is #346 of 586 pictures in my database of perfectionism.

Jetée 08-14-2009 08:30 AM

what is marzipan? is it like butterscotch?

ring 08-14-2009 08:35 AM

This explains it better than I could.

ring's marzipan link above has this great, colorful picture of fruits made out of marzipan

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ipanfruits.jpg

Since I'm older than most of you and more than willing to share things I've learned in life, you may be interested to know that humans first encountered marzipan when Flash Gordon visited Mars. His subsequent expeditions were financed by an anonymous sugar magnate from Cuba and they brought back all the marzipan from Mars so there is none left there now, as we'll confirm one day soon when NASA again revisits the Red Planet.

So, the Devil is not actually in Georgia, but on Mars?

That's a relief!
