Question for people who live in London ON

I am seriously considering moving back to london, So my question to anybody who lives in london is..How expensive is the rent there now? I don't plan on getting my own place right away, I know a few people who live there and i am sure they would let me stay with them rent free for a month or two until i get enough cash to get my own place.

I would be looking for a place on the east end or north east end..Anywhere east of Adelaide St. Just a little Bachelor (sp?) apartment or something like it. Correct me if i'm wrong, When i lived in london you could get a place like i'm looking for for about 4 or 5 hundred a month with everything included..But that was like 6 or 7 years ago..But i know london is hell of alot cheaper to live than toronto is.

Another question..What's the demand for work like in london? I would just be doing work through temp agency's (London does have temp agency's right?) If they pay enough so that i could atleast pay the bills and have alittle left over to live.

Sorry, One more question..Storage facility's, Any idea of what they would cost a month? Probably hundred a month or alittle more eh? I would be needing a storage facility to store all my shit until i get a place.

This isn't a for sure thing right now, But i am feeling optimistic about it only because i know people who live down there and the people who I would probably be staying with like me alot and treat me like i am one of thier kids when i am there (Incase your wondering, It's one of my friends family's that i would probably be staying with)

I want this so bad..I have never just packed up and moved to another city on my own and to tell you the truth, The thought makes me nervous as hell but also makes me happy..Cause i have been wanting to move back to london for a long time.

EDIT:

I came across this link which answers my questions about Temp Angency's Here

Update:
I just talked with my buddy who lives down around london and he said i could stay with him for practically nothing until i get some cash.

He lives down around strathroy and he said thier are temp agency's in that town which is a good thing cause i wouldn't want to commute from where he is to london everyday (approx 40 minute drive one way)

So the way it is right now..I got a place to stay for dirt cheap and if i work through a temp agency i am pretty much guarenteed work with chances of getting a full time position with a company that i am placed in through the agency..If i am able to do the work to thier standards and they are happy with me.

So the road is half paved for me, But yet i'm still nervous as hell. I'm gonna be going down to his place probably this thursday to get in touch with some agency's and find out how much work they are giving out.

I'm gonna ask you now..If you were in this situation and wanted to move back to the city you love or atleast close to it for the time being and had a place to stay as soon as you got down thier..Would you do it?

I guess i'm looking for alittle motivation..I just gotta push myself to do it now. Is there anything important that i'm forgetting when it comes to changing city's?

If it was a city I loved, sure I would move! The rent here in London is definitely cheaper than Toronto, and in Northwest London a lot of new houses have been on the go for the last year or so. And they keep building all the time.
I've lived in London all my life, and I gotta say, it is definitely a nice place to live.
If you want to look more into the prices of houses, jobs, and whatnot, I suggest going to the London Free Press site in the classifieds section. The site has lots of info in general about what's new in London.

Thanks for the link..It gave me an idea of what rent goes for in apartments. Still pretty cheap!

Although as the way it's looking right now..I wouldn't be living in london right away, I would be out near strathroy. I don't want to commute to london to work..But if i can find work that pays better than work in strathroy..Then i will until i can get a place in london..I'm not the one with the problem with commuting, I just don't know how my car is gonna react to commuting everyday.

I live in London, the rent i would say for all inclusive would be in the 600-800 range, really depends on the area and quality of the place. I don't rent so i am not that up to speed on the current costs, but just scanned the morning paper and I would say that the east/north area is the least expensive area.

If your looking for a temp job say in the 12-15$ range while you look for something in your field, there is a ton of call centers in london. worked at all them as i went through uni, doing anything from tech support for internet, computers, sales for bell canada. you name it. If you need a temp job would be easy way to get some extra cash, most are like 3-6 weeks of paid training.. cheers.

I would be looking in the east northeast end for sure, I don't really care about what kind of neighberhood it is.

I'm not sure what you mean by call centre's, Is that a different name for say..Labour Ready? When i first get there i will do pretty much anything to make some money, I didn't think you could get paid up to 15 dollars through a temp agency unless you get hired fulltime through the agency.

agencies usually take a big portion of your coin yes, not sure of your skill set, but getting a decent job in london is difficult unless you have a specfic skill or trade. The call center thing I was mention, well you can get hired at the call centers here directly, not through temp agencies. They take employee's directly, although the temp places i imagine would also have jobs in these areas. what skills do you have I might be able to suggest places to look here in london.

Is it possible for you to give me a few address's for these call centre's? If i walked into a call centre tommorrow, Would i be able to get work through a call centre almost right away?

I can give you some addresses sure of the call centers that I know of, i think because of high turnover there always hiring. I think there is a printing place on wilton grove road that maybe hiring for labour type work. I'll see if can drive by this week and get the name.

i think the address is wilton grove/pond mills. In the same building is a sears packaging place I think, the place is right infront of where wilton meets pond mills.

When i lived in london before, My stepfather worked at a printing company on Wilton Grove, It got bought out by somebody else..So i'm guessing that it's the same place just different name.

I have already had a job offer from my friends friend who works in construction..He says he can get me a job no problem..I'm interested in that, But whether it's going to happen is another question.

/didn't read the whole thread

BUT

I just moved out of my previous apartment (roommates are a bitch sometimes) and got a bachelor apartment, close to the university, for around $550/month inclusive. The farther away from the university you can find a place (once you do actually move to London) the cheaper it will be.

When you say close to the University, do you mean like, a ten minute bus ride, or longer? I ask because in a few years I plan to move out, and get a house with my friends. We are already looking at prices, and just can't choose a good area close to the university (since we will all be going there still) with good prices.
Is that really true? The further away from the uni the cheaper the prices?? :O wow. I didn't know that. :P
And yes Sticky, FM 96 is definitely the ONLY station I listen to.

I only needed one night at the house i was gonna live at (Temporarily) to make my mind up, I spent the night and came home the next day.

I was so sure i wanted to do this, Then when i got there..My eyes actually opened up and said "Toronto is home"...A few other things rushed me back home too though...

I haven't smoked a J in almost 3 months up until monday night, Smoked one with people i was planning on staying with and was on another planet, You know those highs when you just don't say anything and just think about every little thing in a big way that may happen to enter your mind at any given time? Well that was me..And it was all about the decision i made that i thought i wanted. I would like to do it, But these people are the only place i could stay..So it's not gonna be happening, Well..Not anytime soon.

His girlfriend (She's only got 3 teeth..Seriously, I think he's only with her for the 2 kids) is the devils daughter, I have never met anybody as miserable as this woman..Maybe it's because she has lost all her teeth with the exception of three of them..Or maybe she was just born miserable.
I would seriously put money down that some of you have never met a person as pissed of at everything as this girl is..I almost find it humorous.

If i decided to call social services..Those two kids would be yanked out of that house quicktime and probably never seen again by either of them, My buddy is actually good with the kids..Could be better though. His girlfriend though, She will literally tell her 3 year old daughter to "Fuck Off" or "Shut the Fuck Up" if the daughter is making noise while she watches her "Shows" She is a total freak man!
If it was just her with the kids i would have called social services so long ago..But i can't do that to my friend..I know it's wrong, But i just can't..He's good with his kids, But his girlfriend is just not fit to be a mother. If they ever break up, I will do everything i can to help make sure he gets full custody of both kids.

His German Shepard that he has, The house is his cage..I woke up this morning and let the his dog out in the backyard and just like that..He hops the fence and makes a break for it. The dog never gets out, It took me an hour to get the dog back in the house. The dog won't even come to it's owners outside..Because he knows that he's just gonna get dragged back in the house where he may not be out to run for another couple of weeks until he slips through the door when company is coming in or hops the fence. I told both of them to go back in the house and i just sat down and let his dog run, I eventually had to trap him into a fenced yard and take him back..Which i hated, I just wanted to let him go.

Feels good being home..Even though i was only gone one day. That one day was all i needed to realize that what i had planned wouldn't happen the way i would want it to.

IC3, one person's house is probably not a good representation of London Or Strathroy.

As an aside:
Think of the kids.
I am not saying that it is beter for the kids to be removed from their parents and placed with another family - that may not be better for them. But you were the only one that saw what you did. Non of us is there.

All I am saying is when you say that you can't do that to your freind, instead of thinking of your freind, think of the kids.

It's been bugging me that's for sure.

If this is something i do, I'm gonna give it a little while. I'm just not positive anything will be done, Apparently social services has been called about the conditions of thier house before and the kids weren't removed. I honestly feel that it's not a suitable home for the kids to be growing up in, But if they have already had social services at the door and nothing was done..I'm not sure anything will be done this time either. I just found out about them having social services at the door before from my friends sister.

I could almost guarentee that if you walked into that house you would think the same, But they have always lived like slobs..So i'm not sure what stopped social services from taking the two kids.
