Things to do in Vancouver, Canada
Hi everybody,
I'm a New Yorker who's schooling in California and is visiting Vancouver, Canada from October 21-25. I'm looking for a list of things that I could do there, and would REALLY love to have separate lists for tourist attractions and fun local-people-places. Whenever I visit another country, I like to avoid the tourist attractions but indeed there are always a few that are very much worth visiting. As for fun local places, these can be streets, shoppes, bars, clubs, anything where people can have a great time. Thanks in advance! |

Robson st. Downtown vancouver, you'll find all the posh shops and restaraunts.
Gas Town, Downtown Vancouver, you'll find tons of touristy stuff, and the Spaghetti Factory. Commercial Drive, east van, you'll find at least three places you can buy marijuana over the counter. Stanley park is a great place to go for a walk, and swim in the summertime, or just to go feed the ducks There are tons of clubs and bars all over the lower mainland that you can have a blast at, but I can't fill you in on the best ones as I haven't been out to them yet.

Vancouver is a great city but it is seriously missing your typical "tourist spots". It's a great outdoor city (when it's not raining) with lots of natural beauty - and coffee shops. So, if you're in to hiking, biking, skiing, rock-climbing - or drinking coffee - you're set!
As for trendy districts where locals go to have their coffee in between outings, there are: Yaletown - uber-yuppie Granville Island - public market (or rent a power boat) Grouse Mountain skyride - gondola to the top a a local mountain. Great views. Steveston, Richmond - 2 blocks of fish and chips and craft stores... Robson Street - to see and be seen There are many many great restaurants in town too. Hope you have a great trip. |

Spend a day in Victoria. There's tonnes of scenery in Victoria. Take a ferry and you'll be set.
Also visit Stanley Park for the scenery, Yaletown and Gastown. Vancouver has many restaurants. IF you want to know the good ones, tell me your budget and i'll post them. |

Get stoned?
I mean, after all, BC IS the weed captial of Canada isn't it? On the serious note, you could check out whistler. I think it's like 2 hours drive from Vancouver if you have time to spare

Some good restaurants can be found downtown.....just walking around you should find what you want. Hastings in the downtown core is good as is Robson if you're looking to grub up. Lynn Canyon is a nice place to head for a hike, and there is always the Capilano Suspension Bridge. (definitely a cool place if you can hook up with some herb or a strong coffee) Vancouver has the Skytrain which is relatively inexpensive and I recommend going on it one day for an exploration of some of the outlying areas. some highlights you may want to check out: Metrotown Metropolis Shopping Centre, Vancouver Art Gallery, New Westminister Quay, North Vancouver Quay (which has a neat little ferry ride), also, if you're into football you can check out some good canadian football as our hometown lions should be playing at that time. BC Place is their home stadium. Also don't miss the shark club, any location, especially on a Saturday night. it's a good place if you want the laid back feel.
