Vancouver is a great city but it is seriously missing your typical "tourist spots". It's a great outdoor city (when it's not raining) with lots of natural beauty - and coffee shops. So, if you're in to hiking, biking, skiing, rock-climbing - or drinking coffee - you're set!
As for trendy districts where locals go to have their coffee in between outings, there are:
Yaletown - uber-yuppie
Granville Island - public market (or rent a power boat)
Grouse Mountain skyride - gondola to the top a a local mountain. Great views.
Steveston, Richmond - 2 blocks of fish and chips and craft stores...
Robson Street - to see and be seen
There are many many great restaurants in town too. Hope you have a great trip.
