Is this a popular show in canada?
A friend of mine just turned me on to it and since I've discovered it I can't get any work done. I think its freaking halarious. I suppose I could go on an on about the show and how funny I think it is, but really I want to know if canadians think its as funny as I do. Its on Show Case, which, from what I understand is a government sponsored channel. But its in its 6th year, right? Maybe the two have nothing to do with eachother. Does it have commercial support? Is there just a small cult following or is it widely popular? Do all canadians just grow dope in trailors? (just kidding) ====== I fuckin atoljaso. I fuckin atoljaso. Its a catch-23. Its the shit winds. ====== I really can't get enough of these guys.

I've seen the show. It has moments of genius, but as with much comedy, it seems to appeal to a certain mindset (male) that all too often appears juvenile and sophomoric to certain other mindsets (female).
Alright, I admit, i like it, but it makes my wife leave the room or roll her eyes. (same reaction for: Monty Python, Three Stooges, Family Guy, The Simpsons, The War at Home and on and on) My particular favourite character is Julian (I think) who always seems to have a drink in his hand. I also remember one episode where Bubbles got to play a set with Rush at a concert. As for Showcase, i don't believe that it is a government owned station (a la CBC). It's part of the Alliance/Atlantis group. Here is a link to their self-description: http://www.showcase.ca/showcase/aboutus.aspx they had other great shows such as Rescue Me and Dead Like Me. Oh, and here's the link to the Trailer park boys: http://www.showcase.ca/microsites/tr...s/default.aspx *edit PS No we don't all grow pot in our trailers! What do you take us for??? Some of us make use of our sheds and closets. Others find rustic wheelbarrows and earthen planters to be convenient.

They have absolute moments of genius.
The one guy I feel for is Randy. The actor playing him is a chubby guy and is always walking around with no shirt on. It's over the top. I think the reason that so many people like the show is we all can relate to it at one level or another. If you haven't been in some stupid situation in your life like TPB, then you know people who have, or people who live life just like the characters on the show. (I have and I do) I think Ricky and Bubbles are my two favourite characters. The one episode where Ricky has to watch Julian's dog and the dog eats Ricky's Weed Brownies, then Ricky's daughter accidently shoots him in the ass while playing with his gun, so they end up at the vet to get the bullet taken out of Ricky's ass (after they sort out the dog) then for payment, the vet wants them to steal his tractor back from some guy who supposedly borrowed it, then Ricky ends up getting shot again (in the ass) by the guy who borrowed the tractor, and they end up back at the vet is just about the funniest episode I have ever seen. I just about died laughing at that one. There's just too many to list. It's not quite second city, the all time best Canadian TV show, but it's in the league. At the end of the day though, as stupid and nutty as the characters in the show are, they do actually care about one another. |
