I've seen the show. It has moments of genius, but as with much comedy, it seems to appeal to a certain mindset (male) that all too often appears juvenile and sophomoric to certain other mindsets (female).
Alright, I admit, i like it, but it makes my wife leave the room or roll her eyes. (same reaction for: Monty Python, Three Stooges, Family Guy, The Simpsons, The War at Home and on and on)
My particular favourite character is Julian (I think) who always seems to have a drink in his hand. I also remember one episode where Bubbles got to play a set with Rush at a concert.
As for Showcase, i don't believe that it is a government owned station (a la CBC). It's part of the Alliance/Atlantis group. Here is a link to their self-description:

PS No we don't all grow pot in our trailers! What do you take us for??? Some of us make use of our sheds and closets. Others find rustic wheelbarrows and earthen planters to be convenient.
