Hot Spiced Apple Cider

I realized how good this was when i was away at a horse/ski ranch last year....

just mix apple cider (not juice), cinnamon, clove nutmeg and ginger to taste in a pan till steaming hot and serve with a cinnamon stick in each cup...

for a more adult version you can add brandy

its soo good and better for you then hot chocolate

plus great thing to give the kids after they come home from trick or treating frozen stiff

Sounds good. Too bad I'm a college student who can't afford such pleasures as food.

Calvados, an apple brandy is wonderful in spice cider...

When I've made it, I've stuck the spices in a piece of cheesecloth and tied it, and just dunked it in - -that way it acts like a tea bag and makes it easier to remove...

And I love it served with Cinammin Candy sticks -- they kinda melt down into the cider...

Spiced cider is just another of the many reasons that Autumn is my favorite time of the year. Oh yum.

Maleficent, If your gonna do it the teabag way, it tastes so much better if you heat it up by plunging a hot poker into it than in the microwave or on the stove.

hehe i've always used orange brandy..i like the way it mixes with the spices and apple..you can also spice brandy or wine in the same way..just don't boil it..otherwise i'm pretty sure it loses its alcohol...you can also use anise seed and cardamon seeds with pieces of cinnamon stick and cloves and nut meg in a tea strainer and heat it slowly with that then let it sit if you dont like to have the spices floating around...i'll post a good ginger snap cookie to go along with it when i get the time

OMG yes! I work there, and we get a free drink while working there, and unfortunately, we can't get the caramel apple cider because the apple juice is not made by Starbucks! But it is SOOOOO good- we put cinnamon, steamed apple juice, whip cream, and caramel on it. YUMMY!

I'm guessing most of you are from the US and I'm not sure that cider refers to the same drink here in the UK. Cider here is fermented apple juice and rather alcoholic - it comes in varieties from commercial Blackthorn (not very appley, rubbish really) to local scrumpy jack, which is very appley and rough as old boots. Is U.S. cider alcoholic (>5%)?

I first tasted spiced cider in a sky resort in Colorado and it was wonderful, I tried it again at Glastonbury and it knocked me off my feet!!!

Williams Sonoma or whatever the hell the store is called sells an awesome hot buttered rum mix. It is a paste in a jar that you mix with rum and water and it warms you up and makes you happy happy. Can't wait for it to get cold here so I can have some.
