TFPers' Favorite Brew Styles (Poll)
Alright all you beer drinkers.
What's your favorite brew style? Let me know if you want an option added. Oh yeah, I voted for "stout".

I'll choose a pale ale if I plan to have a few and a stout if I plan to have only one. I love Guiness but can't drink it in quantity.
I've met very few beers in life that I didn't enjoy.

depends on my mood. Ive been drinking yeungling alot lately if they have it at the bar. I think thats a lager but not certain. there used to be this great bar in orlando called hobbs where they had 100 beers on tap and another 200 or 300 bottles. it was a beer drinkers paradise but they closed down before i moved away. i used to go in there every once in a while and order a bud light just cause it pissed off the bartender

Lager, mostly. Also enjoy pale ales. I like my beers light and crispy with a touch of hops. Not too light, though...Bud Light just tastes like soda pop to me.
Enjoy a darker brew so now and then--enjoy nut brown ales as well as stouts. Just depends on the mood.

I would say depends on the weather, a good Hefewiezen is good for the first beer on a hot day. an IPA with a meal, or a Lager. but for general drinking a pale ale is good. after a couple of the above, then budweiser is delicious. It does say it is the king of beers

Nice to see a number of Stout drinkers out there. I must admit, however, that as good as Guiness is, it's just the tip of the stout iceberg. The most serious stout I have come across is North Coast Brewing's Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout. If you can find that one (it comes in 4 packs, not 6'ers) you'll be a happy stout drinker.
Other good stouts... North Coast Old 38 Stout (same brewer as Old Rasputin, not nearly as heavy) Lost Coast Eightball Stout (no, not a 40 oz'er, is a 22) Rogue Shakespere Stout Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout (goes down EASY) And although it's not a stout, this deserves a mention... Stone Brewing's Arrogant Bastard Ale

It's much easier to make a good pale ale than it is a good bitter because one uses a (slightly) greater quantity of ingredients, and consequently has more margin for error. American Pale ale, on the other hand, is chock full of hops. (As are most American beers, compared to their English counterparts).

Personally, I prefer beers I've brewed myself, which probably has something to do with my preference for stout. I make one I consider superior to Sweetwater Tavern's gold medal winning Imperial Stout.
I've also made excellent Münchner Dunkel and Helles Lagers, and prety fair pale and scottish ales and porters. The only kinds of beer I really am not fond of are Barley wines (tend to be unpleasantly bitter with lots of myrcene and other high alpha hops signatures, and metallic - bloody even), American Standard/Premium Lager (Budweiser - no taste to speak of), overly sour Belgian Ales (Scaldis - stuff tastes like parmesan and copper shavings), and Rauchbiers (taste like candied woodsmoke - not why I drink beer.) Arrogant Bastard rocks. Double Bastard is way too malty to balance properly. Stone's Ruination IPA is pretty frickin' intense too. So's their Smoked Porter. (only smoked beer I really enjoy.)

I'm with you, Hitchcock. If you're not drinking stout, you're wasting good drinking time.
That said, I've become very fond of The Dog (Newcastle Brown) quite recently... delicious stuff. Quite hard to get hold of in any quantity down here in the Antipodes, alas. |

Arrogant Bastard Ale should be avoided, in my opinion. However, the same brewery (Stone Brewery) has an IPA that is pretty damn good.

I love the darks, so I voted Stout.
Guiness is on it's own, but I one I haven't seen in a while is Taddy Porter. There are several micros around here that make some damn good darks.
