ahhhhh! The cheesy spy music was back at the end of this episode, what's up with that???
|
Okay, so what does everybody think has happened to Aaron?
|
I like the twist with Heller. I don't think it was the right move for him to make, but it's interesting. I don't think he's behind anything either, like some people have been speculating. He wanted the arrest warrant for Jack immediately rescinded and his daughter not harmed. If he wanted to protect himself, he knows to kill Jack immediately.
The only thing I didn't like about the episode was the ending. Is it just me, or couldn't Heller have shown the letter of resignation the President was about to sign to the Vice-President? Sure it's not signed, but the President was about to sign it, so he would have had to explain that to the VP. I think it would have been more believable for the President to have wiggled out of that situation if the unsigned letter wasn't sitting on the desk. -Tamerlain |

Aaron missing... That would just be too bad. It's posible that he protects the President at all cost and under any surcomestances. It's also posable that he's trying to lure the First Lady out to the stables. But we don't have a motive.
All in all, I don't think Aaron's dead. |
i'm not sure why i still watch this show. it's a train wreck.
i've got to go back and watch the earlier seasons now, just to make sure that i haven't been falling for this crap for 5 five years and am only now catching on. techno-jargon, techno-jargon, ultra-fast dialog, techno-jargon, annoying 2d characters, techno-jargon. that about sums it up. |
The worst is watching the seasons inbetween eachother..Im catchin season 2 episodes on A&E inbetween the season 5 episodes on fox...
|
I watch the show because it keeps me entertained and because Jack Bauer is such a thoroughly entrancing character. It's far from perfect, but it makes me happy on a week to week basis. Sure, it's riddled with plot holes, but I can look past that in the interests of enjoying the ride. Every time Chloe makes a horribly inappropriate comment, I get a good smirk. Every time Jack and Audrey have a cute" moment I "awwwwwwww." Every time Jack does something badass and ridiculous or a tac-team bursts in to save the day I cheer. And every time a character I like dies I'm crushed (insofar as you ever get crushed about TV characters dying, so I'm exaggerating, sue me).
If you don't like it, don't watch it. I've never understood why people have such a fascination with continuing to watch/listen to/play/read media they don't like just to complain about how much they didn't like it after the fact. Tonight's episode saw the re-emergence of the Season 2 slow to appear big conspiracy that's behind everything. That doesn't really bode well, since the season 2 conspiracy was kind of lame. Oh well, Jack stowing himself away in a plane that he doesn't know the destination of is pretty sweet, as were the tense interactions between Jack, Audrey and Christopher. Good stuff, good stuff. It's been a long week already and the episode put a smile on my face. Yay for that. |
it's just simply that I'm attached to the show. I loved it back in the day, and I want to get out of it what I got out of it in the past. I'm riding the season out, just because it's sort of earned a chance to redeem itself.
But, as Jack would say, time is running out! I'll just have to accept that the show is now a parody of its former self and move on... so can someone, just to make sure i'm not going crazy, tell me that this season (and, to a lesser extent, last season) are vastly different from the first three seasons? |

Yes, I've noticed the parallels with President Logan and President Bush as well, but it's not the first time the show has dealt with themes that mirrored what was going on in real life. The nuclear bomb going off in the desert happened while the "threat" of Iraqi WMDs was on everyone's mind leading up to the war. (wow, I just looked it up: that episode aired 3/4/2003, the war started on 3/20/2003. Makes you wonder if Rumsfeld is a fan... :p )
But that's not really what I'm talking about, in terms of how the show's different now. I guess what I'm asking is: was the show always this overt and melodramatic? I just felt the earlier seasons were more subtle (and, for me, more interesting) with their characterizations and plot lines. Now everthing feels over-the-top and in-your-face and unnecesarily fast-paced to make up for the show's shortcomings. I have no issue with the show not being all gung-ho USA (although I never thought of it like that). I think the idea of the President being the bad guy is good, but I'll still question the quality of the way in which they've executed that idea. Not really looking for a pissing contest here or anything... just trying to figure out what's happened to one of my favorite shows. |
To answer your question bluntly, yes. It has always been like this.
Season 1 is the best season, no question. And yet, it contains the worst side plot of all time: Terri losing her memory. Also, season 2 contained the same very late season behind the scenes conspiracy. Season 3 had that stupid drug-selling melodramatic side plot with the kid that ended up just being something to worry someone. It's part of the deal. I don't know why you're noticing it more now. |
I'll definitely agree with you there, those plotlines were some of the low points of their respective seasons. And the problems I had with them are pretty much the same problems I have with this entire season, now that you mention it.... *shrug*....
|
Every season of 24 has had its shortcomings, but I don't care as long as I get to see Jack Bauer being Jack Bauer.
|
So if Bush parallels Logan... does that mean BUSH KILLED CLINTON?!

Yeah, no way is Audrey's dad dead. I like the plot ending back up on the US goverment, but I don't really draw that many lines to real life. I think any writer uses current events or big historical moments as inspiration for their work. I think it's interesting that everyone involved though (Logan, and what's his name they found hung) thinks they are doing something good for the country. I'm wondering what that good is going to be.

Anyone else think that these ending hours really slow down on the action. I swear, the beginning hours of these seasons are all over the place as far as plot goes. Now each hour is kind of one idea. This hour - Jack on plane getting recording. I'm thinking next hour - plane getting shot down, or whatever is going to happen.
Also, the people the president is calling now. What's up with them, do we know their agenda yet? Or do we know why the president was in on this in the first place? I didn't think we were clued in to why they think this is for the good of the country. |

I think it's kinda like a current illuminati thing. Season 2 - Program can create a recording that sounds like anyone Season 5 - Recording can take down a president. |
Jack Bauer Death Count
Balance--28 2am-3am No Kills New Total=28 Wow, two consecutive hours and Jack hasn't killed anyone (tho he did kick the shit out of a couple guys on the plane). Nor does it look like he's going to get anyone next hour. In fact I am going to go so far as to say *28* is the magic number for this day. Jack's all done killin'. |
who cares about the kill count. its Alvarez and officer Murphy!!!!!!!!! ;)
|
did anyone else think that the best part of last monday's episode was chloe's demonstration of how to use a taser?
|
Oh man, that was the funniest 24 scene to date.
|
There's a slight chance that by the last episode Jack might be on the ground and kicking some ass again, but, yeah, if he does break 30 kills, it's no going to be by much at all.
Additionally, Chloe is awesome. That's pretty much all there is to it. I can't figure out why Jack wouldn't play the recording over the phone to CTU just to end any problems of losing that recording, but what do I know? Excitement abounds! |
Chloe + tazer = drunk guy out cold multiple times. I was thinking the same thing about the recording. Play the damn thing over the phone so Karen knows it is legit.
|
Quote:
Now, don't get me wrong, I agree with what you've said, that's the silliest thing ever in the history of 24... however, to play Devil's advocate... wasn't that hacker punk the only guy who could use the recording-making machine? And he's dead now, so, the President's recording couldn't be a fake the way the recording in Season 2 was, right? |

Um, so I guess when they searched Buchannan's house Wayne Palmer must have left already.
What about that suspect Vladmir Bierko Bauer saved from the Exploding gas plant? What about Henderson? And what the hell happened to Behrooz !? |

I don't think it would stand up at all. I would just like a couple of others to hear it so they get behind Jack 100%. Specially that dork at CTU, the one that is right under Karen.
Only a couple of hours left, and we have a lot to wrap up. |
just to get out of the topic but just to let you guys know that there will be a 24:movie, they'll be filming next year
|
So if I understand correctly, the snarky dude from Homeland waltzed into the room where Chloe was working on the recording with some bizarre device in his hand that emits red light, "sneakily" waved it near the recording while Chloe was working on it, and now the recording will be destroyed/corrupted/etc. and Chloe, despite working ON the recording, didn't notice.
Also, how has no one made a copy of this stupid thing yet? The first thing I would've done when I got it to CTU was copy it onto every computer in sight, e-mail it to myself, Congress, the New York Times. What genius idea did Chloe, Miss Paranoid, have of working on it only from the original and not saving it to her computer? That is some genius plot twist right there people. GENIUS. Alternately, it's the stupidest shit I've ever heard. zzz At least the stupid crap with Terri losing her memory didn't matter. This pretty much is a cheap ploy to get an extra episode or two. I am ashamed to be a 24 fan tonight. |
and to top it off, the prez didn't shoot himself..... :(
|
The 3 dumbest things to happen on 24 this year:
1. The terrorists decide to distribute Sentox gas thru the natural gas system to peoples furnaces (homes). Apparently oblivious to the fact that burning the gas reders it harmless, as demonstrated by an AWESOME explosion. 2. Jack failed to make a copy of the recording immediately after getting it from the bank. 3. Miles erased the only copy of the recording with a red flashlight (if this turns out the be what happened last night). Jack Bauer Death Count Balance--28 3am-4am No Kills New Total=28 |
Oh man, if the prez would have shot himself, I would have given up on this show. But I agree, I still can't believe that Jack hasn't played this thing for about 70 different people. So Audrey's dad heard it though right? And he's alive.
So Jack shows up at CTU gives the recording to Chloe, and he goes off and makes out with Audrey. How could he be so careless... |
It's funny how President Logan found a new texting buddy. How teenybopper girl of him.
|
Uhhh yeah.... that was a pretty lame episode.
Jack just hands this uber important piece of evidence that multiple people have died for tonight, to an UNGUARDED computer tech. Riiiiiiight. And hey, while we're at it, let's transfer Bieko for no apparent reason ! I have to agree, 24 has really gone downhill during these last few episodes. Heller should have died period. Do you realize what kind of impact there would have been on his winshield from a fall that high? Ugggggggh end the season. just end the season. |
Or how bout Marines rush a freeway after a fuckin airline just landed on it!!! and they have no clue what Jack Bauer looks like(apparently since he got through that patrol)
|
Oh yeah, and how about having direct orders to check all ID's, and then just let them go because they are CTU. The group that Jack works for. Who cares it's almost over, I can't wait to see how it all ends up.
|
sigh.......
I have these horrible dreams where Jack Bauer is jumping over this big aquatic animal with sharp teeth over and over and over... Remember when I defended 24 about 15 posts ago? I retract my defense. The ending of this season is hurting my soul. |
The fourth dumbest thing to happen in 24 this season:
--When you are in charge of a submarine and are told to expect a terrorist attack... LOCK THE FUCKING DOORS! Jack Bauer Death Count Balance--28 4am-5am No Kills New Total=28 |
Yeah, marq, seriously. He's been told that there's an imminent attack and he has two options:
1) seal the hatch and wait for help since people outside the sub have a much better vantage point and don't have to go through one hatch to come in and out where they'd be easily ambushed or 2) grab a gun (I'm sure as a submarine captain he has extensive experience using a gun in close-quarters combat situations, sure) and roll on out the hatch to lay the smackdown Only in the the 24-verse does someone pick #2. |
Ugh.
Truly a lame episode. Though it was cool when the 1st lady shot the evil secret service dude. |
I couldn't help but have visions of Whack-A-Mole as the sub captain stuck his head out of the hatch.
|
Ack! I can't deal with all the hating. Apparently I have an abnormally large capacity for suspending disbelief, because while all of you make valid points that I totally agree with, I'm still loving it. Oh well.
|
Nah, I'm just frustrated. I think this is at least the third best season (certainly better than three or four, as far as I'm concerned) and it might be better than season two. I guess I'll have to see how things shake out before I can make that determination. At the same time, some HORRIBLY stupid shit has happened. And when you can see it coming and can also see that it'd be really easy to prevent and it happens anyway, and it keeps happening, it eventually gets to be annoying.
I'll watch 24 religiously until it goes off the air, I'm just wishing they'd not taken some of these illogical shortcuts at the end of this season in order to stretch out the tension. |
Who else isn't really THAT excited for tomorrow's season finale?
I mean, I'll watch it, but I'm not expecting much. Still can't believe they killed Tony. |
I just can't wait to see who is behind that super secret group the pres keeps calling up. All will be answered tonight. And then some big twist so that we all watch next season.
|
Great ending, best season yet. January.....grrrrr I hate to wait
|
This was an intense season and I was surprised that the Chinese actually kidnapped and tortured Jack Bauer. Are they taking him back to China?
|
no answers as to who that secret group of people were, but I did appreciate the ending with Jack being carted to China. I've been saying it for years: the one thing this show could really use is a change of scenery. If next season is about Jack escaping from imprisonment in China, I might have to tune in, even if I was really disappointed with this season overall.
although, as i typed that, i realize how similar that might be to 24's sister show, Prison Break (never seen it though). My one liner would be: A decent end to a bad season. carry on. |
Well, I'd put it about even with season two overall, and certainly better than seasons three and four.
I guess this was about the only way for the season to end, though it's a hearbreaker to see Jack and Audrey split up again. Also, honestly, how the Chinese happened to know where Jack had kidnapped the president to and gotten there and gone totally unnoticed by the security detail and get out is well outside of my ability to comprehend or really appreciate. I'm pretty sure the location of someone arrested for kidnapping and interrogating the president isn't really common knowledge. But this has certainly been a season marked by a lot of stupid stuff, so I guess I shouldn't complain too much. It was what it was, and there were certainly plenty of great moments in the finale and the season, at least the first 18 or so epsiodes, was really enjoyable. |
They certainly implied that they were headed off to china in that big ocean liner. So I wonder if the next 24 we will see someone new emerge, and go find Jack. It has to be soon, or Jack is in a world of hurt.
|
Well Keifer is on for another 3(4?) seasons, and I doubt Fox would pay him what I'm sure he's commanding at this point to play second fiddle to any of the other people in the show, not that I don't love the, they're just have none of his star power.
Additionally, I love watching things (old movies and TV shows) and seeing people from 24 in them and getting to get really excited about it. "in the Army Now" with Pauly Shore was on last night, and the actor who plays Aaron was their recruiter. It was awesome. |
Spoiler: Thank God for the Chinese. They could make the next season very interesting.
|
Yeah it was an OK ending to a kinda lame season.
I'm glad Henderson got capped, but if I was Jack I would have made him suffer more. I think the most tense scene of the finale was when that petty officer had the stab the bad guy from behind. I thought fur sure the kid was gonna get pwned. I agree that the change of scenary could really improve the show. I've grown tired of the Los Angeles locale. And Chloe was MARRIED !? LOL ! |
Where did you get the chloe married thing. You mean the dude with accent that was always calling her love?
|
yeah, that was her ex-husband. Buchanan mentions it when Chloe first says his name to get reinstated at CTU.
|
I'm pretty sure they needed another over-weight bald dude for next season to replace Edgar, hence bringing in Chloe's ex-husband.

Not to bring reality to 24 or anything, but it did occur to me that the president could've tipped off the Chinese. This would assume that he didn't get caught and lives happily ever after. Now, would it really look very good for anyone if a person accused of treason and kidnapping/attempting to murder the president disappeared out of secret service custody? You're damn right it wouldn't, because it would look like he escaped. And, after everything else that happened, I don't think that's a very good result.
Having the Chinese know where to be makes NO sense at all. Either the president tips them off and you get the bizarre and unlikely situation above or they just happen to figure out on their own, which makes about as much sense. They wanted to include it in this season instead of it happening between seasons and to leave a cliffhanger at the end. It was poorly conceived and poorly executed. |
but given all the things that president logan thought he could get away with (the cyntox, attacking the russian motorcade, shooting down the plane with jack on it), it seems that giving jack's location away to the chinese ranks up there in terms of its absurdity (if not below them).
who knows if he actually did it, though. |

Just out of curiousity anyone played the 24 game yet?
I just rented it this weekend, and I found it to be a good time for about that long. Granted I wasnt very busy this weekend so I ended up playing alot... anyway... Voice acting is top notch, everyone is in there (game takes place between season 2-3 so no Audrey or Heller...) and there are several characters that you do play as not all Jack all the time. Graphics are pretty good for the PS2 Gameplay was fairly easy to learn, but I HATED any time I had to drive. Maybe I've just played too much GTA in my time but it felt like I was trying to drive an armoured car when I'm driving a jeep... Oh and I love that (especially considering how shafted he got this season...) Tony kicks so much ass in the game. |
