Dooku, hands down.

Lets compare it to another battle, Anakin vs. Obi-wan. Who gets owned in that battle?

Both Dooku and Maul is still training in the art of the Dark Side.

Yoda said that there's only one apprentice and one master.

Maul first appeared 10 years ago in Esp I as an apprentice and was killed. Dooku is also an apprentice, although, he seemed to be more trained in the force. But if Maul wasn't killed 10 years ago, then Maul obviously would have more training than Dooku and hence, would've easily killed Dooku.

Lets not forget that Darth Maul was also a Teräs Käsi practitioner. Normally its practiced with out a weapon but Maul was working his Lightsaber into it. "quoteing the book Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter"

Maul spun on his right foot and shot his left leg out in a powerful side kick, slamming his boot into the droid's armored chest, stopping it cold. He dropped into a squat, spun the lightsaber like a scythe, and sickled the droid cleanly at the knees. Lower legs gone, it collapsed as Maul again twisted himself and his weapon, flowing into the form known as Rancor Rising. He brought the right blade up between Chain's mechanical thighs, hard, using his leg muscles to augment the strike as he pushed up from the squat to a standing position. The force of his strike bisected Chain from its crotch right through the top of its head.

So with the use of his saber and martal arts, Dooku would not have stood a chance. IMO.

That scene is rather interesting, I forget what Qui-Gon said that made Yoda request to become his apprentice

Tie.

Spoiler: Obviously it's Obi-wan in Esp III simply because he manged to fight Anakin off to the point where Anakin falls into the Lava and become badly multiated that he needs the life support that makes Darth Vadar so famous for.

On the other hand, Anakin strikes down Obi-wan in Esp IV. (I don't care if Darth Vadar and Anakin are 2 different people for those of you who are hardcore SW fans).

Anakin 'kills' obi-wan in ANH because obi-wan lets him, theres no other way of looking at it.

If Dooku and maul were both unarmed, who do you think would win? Dooku. It's only because of a lightsabre people are actually going for maul, or saying it was a tie.
A lightsabre isn't the only thing in a jedi/sith armoury.

Spoiler: Yeah he comes back and tells Yoda that his way of the Force is outdated and incorrect and that he should respect the Living Force and learn from it. The Jedi hit a stalemate and were using the Force as a tool and regarded it as a science as opposed to a mythical force.

Qui-Gon sets that straight and Yoda goes to Dagobah where there is mass life readings (Luke says this himself) which is the best place to learn about the living force. So yes, Qui-Gon does teach him a lesson.

I thought Yoda picked Dagobah because of the fact that he once killed a Sith there that left a dark power and by going there, it cancels out his light side force so that he can hide from the new Sith order.

Sorry about thread jacking.

I suspect if we had seen more of Maul he would have shown that he too was strong with the force. He not only challenged a Master and his Apprentice he Killed the master not just wounded the Master. Imho he would/should have lived through the fight between him and Obi Wan.

Dooku. Trained by Master Yoda. Lets face it .. the baddest Jedi in the Galaxy. He is strong in the Force and skilled with a Lightsaber. Cool and collected under fire. Attacked by an over zealous padawan, Anakin and his very skilled Master Obi Wan. Obi Wan although skilled in the force was also over zealous and head strong. He was confident but also by his actions asking for him and Anakin to attack in sync shows that he too felt over matched.

Although Anakin was dispatched quickly at first against the force lightning of Dooku, Obi wan was not. And held his own for a time. (not aswell admitedly as he did against Maul) Then with skill Dooku did not kill but only wounded him! Why? Because he is not a murderer. He did not want to harm either Jedi really. This shows alot of skill. He could have killed them both. Regardless of Yoda's presence.

As for how it all played out. Maul should not have been killed by such a feeble attack as the one so easily deffended upon from Obi Wan. But because of his murderous tendencies was too over confident.
Dooku was not. Skill in the force and battle is key.

Although I would have liked to see more of Maul I do think that Dooku would have ultimately put him down.

Vote: Dooku.
Maul is amazingly overrated. Yeah, he killed Qui-Gon but he couldn't do it until Obi-Wan had been separated, so it was a one on one fight. Qui-Gon isn't really that amazing of a fighter.

Obi-Wan however was kicking Maul's ass. He completely manhandled him, and I don't see how anyone could think Maul was any better than Obi-Wan. He cut the saber Mau's saber in half, and would have won but Maul snuck in a force push. Then Obi-Wan flew up and cut him in half anyway.

If Maul was no better than padawan Obi-Wan, the master Obi-Wan would annihilate him. And he was defeated by Dooku.

So easily Dooku > Maul.

Hmm. I'd go the other way. Darth Maul and Boba Fett were barely even characters at all. They were merely plot devices who performed their limited function then were disposed of. IMO, they were one-dimensional bit parts, nothing more.

I would like to say Maul but his Force powers are much weaker than Dooku's. As mentioned earlier by Kazic, Dooku has honor even though he is a Sith..so he would prefer to just battle with a jedi until either party gives up or retreats. which he did in episode 2. In a straight saber duel, Mail would win. He kicked Obi Wan's ass (for a short time) and he killed QG. His martial arts plus the dual lightsaber made him a respectable opponent.

Question, why isnt Dooku considered a 'Darth', but a 'Count'?
Spoiler: When Palpatine ordered Dooku killed in the opening sequence, Dooku looked surprised. Do you believe it was shock that his master ordered him to be killed or just that Palpatine wanted him killed..basically do you think Dooku knew who Palpatine really was.

Answer is that he WAS a darth; he was referred to as "Darth Tyrannus" by Siddious in Ep2

Just in case you didn't know, and I not saying you don't, but Count Dooku and Darth Tyranus are the one and the same.

I do believe there is a novel based on him but I don't follow the EU closely so I could be mistaken.

I haven't seen any books (that doesn't mean they aren't there, but I'm usually pretty up-to-date) specifically about Dooku. I've seen (and read) one about Maul though.

So - the general feel seems to be that Maul < Dooku and that Obi-Wan > Anakin/Vader

Go for the Jedi/Sith Royal Rumble.

Starting with QuiGon, Yoda, Windu, Luke, ObiWan, Vader/Anakin, Dooku, Maul, Palpatine in the ring, who goes out in what order, and who wins in the end.

If you want to make it interesting, who allies with who durning the battles?

I think many people are missing the point that skill isn't the only thing that dictates who will win the fight. Luck is always a big contributor. We can say that Obi killed Maul but couldn't take Dooku, therefore Dooku is the best. However Anakin killed Dooku but was beaten by Obi. Therefore, couldn't that imply that Obi was better than both Anakin and Dooku? Logically, in Ep IV, the only reason why Vader was able to kill Obi was because Obi let him.
