Qui-Gon sets that straight and Yoda goes to Dagobah where there is mass life readings (Luke says this himself) which is the best place to learn about the living force. So yes, Qui-Gon does teach him a lesson.

I thought Yoda picked Dagobah because of the fact that he once killed a Sith there that left a dark power and by going there, it cancels out his light side force so that he can hide from the new Sith order.
