But it seems Leary's character has never taken his pants off to get any of the action he sees. And doesn't it seem that all the scenes never last any longer than the ones where he was getting off too quick with the teacher?

Anyone know what's up with Charles Durning? They keep mentioning his character (Tommy's father) but they never show him. I miss him on the show. I hope he was just taking time off from the show to do a movie or to just have time off or something. I hope it wasn't because he was sick or anything. He turned 83 earlier this year, so illnesses wouldn't bode well for his long-term health.

I'm so confused..all the women in that series look alike... especially those two brunettes.
but I still love it. Leary keeps surprising me with his acting skills. He apparently is really passionate about firefighters, so I guess that explains his efforts. |

Booray: It looks like he's going to be in next week's episode. He looks quite haggard in the previews.
I was watching last night's episode with my sister and we were trying to figure out if any of the characters weren't terribly screwed up in some way. We couldn't thing of one.

He may not be personally messed up anymore, after getting his pill addiction figured out, but the situation he is in with his daughter being essentially kidnapped is definitely FUBAR.
And it looks like Leary finally got sick of banging every female on the show, as it looks like he pretty much blew it last episode with all the regulars. |

I'm still tremendously nervous about Sheila's motivations. Spoiler: Does it seem obvious to anyone else that Tommy wants to give her widow money to Stack and his wife? After I went to bed I was thinking about the bombshell that Tommy's brother dropped on him and I realized something that should have been obvious right away: Spoiler: the kid could be Tommy's. The scene where the house deals with Probie's homosexuality was probably pretty true to life, but still sad.

I'm not sure Sheila's motivation is anything but desperation, trying to cling to whats left of her dead husbands memory. I think you are right on about Tommy's intentions though. As for the big news from his bro, I saw that coming a mile away, and figured that was the only reason she was having sex with Tommy in the first place, and a couple comments during next weeks previews kinda helped convince me.

Glad you got to watch the whole thing. Spoiler: The scene where the brother swallows the checker was pretty hilarious.
Nikilidstrom: are you saying that Spoiler: She knew she was pregnant and started having sex with Tommy to put the question in his mind as to whether the kid was his or not, or that she started to have sex with him in order to have his baby?

Man, I miss when this show was upbeat for like three episodes. This shit is so fucking dark. Spoiler: Tommy telling Stack to give up and die for the good of his family and then walking out casually when he does...Jesus.

The burned guy is Tommy's buddy Stack, from another firehouse. A few episodes ago the two houses were fighting a large fire together and a wall or ceiling collapsed on Stack, trapping him and setting him on fire, until Probie pulled him out. That is the same time that Tommy figured out that maybe Probie had some potential and did not want him to transfer to another house.
And from the previews of the last few episodes of the season, it looks like it just gonna keep getting darker, too. |

That' what I like about this show. The two things you mentioned would have been season ending cliffhangers for most writers. Here we're going to get to enjoy some more twists to it I'm sure next week as well as who knows what else. I'm glad I didn't get let down by Rescue Me like I was The Sopranos last season.

Spoiler: Man... I can't believe that given ten minutes with that wortless cuntstain Tommy didn't go apeshit on him. About the only reason I'm not looking forward to next week's episode is I don't want to wait until next season. This show doesn't do anything except get better every week.

Always, Always(!) set the DVR to record 5 minutes long. You don't want to miss any of this! To answer your question... Spoiler: Tommy told her he's quiting the FDNY. Next weeks preview showed him asking another FDNY where to turn in his papers.

The opening sequence showing Spoiler: the reactions to Johnny's death was very well done as well. And the way things are looking, there may not be any of these guys on the FDNY next season. I hope that isn't the way it goes because they have a really great cast here IMHO.

I was somehow looking away during "the casket scene." Spoiler: I assume Johnny opened his eyes and looked at Tommy, and that's what made Tommy slam the lid? I found the aftermath of the funeral to be disturbing. I'm all for celebrating his life or whatever, but Tommy's sister (not the deaf one, which is a really stupid tacked on addition to help keep the family at full strength) is essentially a sociopath. I was actually disappointed by this episode, but I'm glad Tommy didn't touch his brother's murderer. Talk about an empty revenge.

Callie Thorne usually irritates me, but I thought she was very good in this episode, really a step above her previous performances. Spoiler: Sort of disappointing. I felt the episode was a little too casual about the way things got tied up so there can be a next season. Lou's out is totally screwed (I enjoyed Artie Lange's cameo), Franco's daughter is out of the picture again (I like how they worked around not being able to get Susan Sarandon back) and Tommy's response to things made it seem like the character hadn't grown at all since the first episode. But I'm looking forward to next season.

Amazing thread - almost 3 years since the first post!
I started watching it last season, and it has become one of my favorites. I'm still not up to speed on all the back stories - guess I'll have to buy the DVDs. BTW, I would let Sheila do me while conscious.

I've been watching this show on TV right before season 5 started. Hulu has all 5 seasons on their site, so I watched the whole series back to back. Spoiler: Anyone else feel iffy about Michael J Fox's character on here? I love him as an actor, but as Sheila's new bf of the week? Tho I did like the bar scene with him and Tommy.
Thanks for the necro will, glad there is somewhere to talk about this show on the board. This show is fighting off House as my new favorite show on TV. |
