I agree. I think it was the episode of the season, by far.
Always, Always(!) set the DVR to record 5 minutes long. You don't want to miss any of this! 
To answer your question... Spoiler: Tommy told her he's quiting the FDNY. Next weeks preview showed him asking another FDNY where to turn in his papers.
