big fan of Metropolis, Naruto, Green Green (don;t ask me why), Hajime no ippo.
anime is a great substitute for television- no commercials, adult themes, no crummy done to death reality shows.

I love anime, just don't get to watch it often. The wife is not into it at all.
JS thanks for the site, I'll have to check that out.

I love anime, and Ryan has a nice collection of it, so that helps.
Things we own- Cowboy Bebop plus movie Outlaw Star El Hazard Iria Some DragonBall Big O NGE plus movie Princess Mononoke Spirited Away a couple Vampire Hunter movies Metropolis Akira, of course Blood X Ghost in the Shell Armitage FLCL and many others I reccomend getting your Anime off ebay or other internet sites, a good one is sundevildvd.com. I strongly reccomend not going to Best Buy, Sam Goody, Suncoast, or any other stores like that. Big rip-off.

Two of the studios that I've been doing work for over the last couple of years are Pioneer (Geneon) and Bandai, so I've become more of a fan of anime the more I watch.
Some recent series I've very much enjoyed are: Witch Hunter Robin Last Exile (probably my new favorite series ever) Haibane-Renmei L/R:Licensed by Royalty (GREAT soundtrack) Captain Herlock Heat Guy J was okay, but too oriented on action and not enough on story for me.

See, the thing that gets me, is if I'm talking about how I don't like anime, someone will come up with a list of things I have to watch to appreciate it. Then half the time, Cowboy Bebob shows up on the list, which I've seen and couldn't stand. Once I see that I just dismiss the rest of the list. I may give Grave of the Fireflies a chance someday, but if it sucks, I'm going to be very bitter.
Although I have heard of some people who claim not to like anime, but still like Grave of the Fireflies. That's about the only thing that's keeping any interest in the movie alive for me.

Yea. I agree with Batman but in a different light... If I even mention that I enjoy anime, someone unloads a 3 page list of things I have to watch to even be an anime fan. Half the things people tell me to watch, I have no interest in. Like anything Gundam, or must action anime in general just puts me to sleep.
One anime I have been looking to check out is Witch Hunter Robin. I've been considering just diving in and buying the Box Set, even though I haven't seen a single episode. Has anyone seen this series? Good? Bad? Thoughts?

Grave of Fireflies is a great movie.. There are lots of good anime OVAs and series out there, just as there are lots of bad ones.. just like any form of media..
Dont dismiss the whole genre because you got caught up in a bad series.. Hell.. i usually stick with at least 3 eps of a series i dont like to see if it gets better. Spinach , i have WHR, and it's ok.. If you have seen Noir, or Hellsing, or E's otherwise.. it's kinda like that.. It's hard for me to sum it up, so i'll find you a synopsis. http://www.animeacademy.com/library/whr/whr.html that is generally a excellent site to see opinions on various anime series/ OVA's.. Another very story driven anime title that I enjoyed is Jin-Roh:Legend of the Wolf Brigade.

the OVA or tv series?
The OVA is very good, albeit short. its only 3 episodes.. The tv series i think may still be aired in Japan, so im not sure how long it it.. It's not as elaborate as the movie.. becase the udget is smaller, but from what i've seen it's shaping up well.. |

Easily Maison Ikkoku one of the most romantic stories ever told. Lain and Boogie Pop Phantom, new series but really good and twisted stories. Samarui X perhaps one of hte best anime ever made period

Damn, I wish I had seen this thread earlier.
Anyway, I'm surprised no one has recommended my favourite anime series, Rurouni Kenshin! Some of you may have seen the OAV, Samurai X, based on this TV series (which is, in turn, based on the manga). The series is a perfect balance of drama, action, and comedy. It's always engaging and never ceases to surprise. The show is good til episode 28, then it becomes great! Don't bother watching past episode 62. |

we're renting voices over here this weekend, i'll let you know how it is after the holidays..
Though, if you happen to see millenium actress somewhere for under 25 bucks.. pick it up! it's really good.. The maturity level of the peice reminded me of Jin Roh, but the approach and character design and pacing reminded me of a Miyazaki movie, but not as "cutesy". Very fucking well done. i've watched a damn large amount of anime in my time and i would say a forum for it wouldn't be such a bad idea. i read plenty of manga as well. i don't spend any more time watching anime or reading manga than i do playing video games but i try and keep a good balance of doing both at the same time.
lately i've been reading up on the berserk manga which is WAY different from the TV series. i keep up on the latest releases from japan and when a new volume is translated i usually pick that up as well so i can see what they are saying in english. i watched the original TV berserk series fansubbed almost 5 years ago. so its pretty fair to say i saw that greatness comming out long before anyone even heard of it. i'm excited now that the box set is out to see lots of people getting whipped up about it. i love scryed and have both the manga and fansubs of the tv series. i want to get the dvd boxset asap. just waiting a bit for them to wrap it up. raxephon was pretty much the same as evangellion almost down to the characters which was damn freaking and frankly, i thought, kinda a cheap ripoff. but don't let the keep you from watching it its actually not half bad. ultimately i think making an anime forum wouldn't be such a bad idea and in the end if it turns out not to be used at all i suppose it could be removed. considering how varied the "entertainment" section is it might not be a bad idea to segment that out in several cases. such as tv/movies/anime. regardless it might be worth some thought. |

InuYasha is like shonen anime.. but girls dig it because of the love story and the main character is cute..
The guy who does the voice of Inuyasha is pretty cool, and the production team tries REALLY HARD to get things out in the states and translated well and as quickly as possible. Personally i didnt like it at first, but after meeting the voice actors and producers at a con..i gave it a second chance, and it's not too bad. I dont have any detailed opinions on the series though.. |

Just started watching RahXephon and though I've only seen the first 5 or so episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion the similarities are striking. However RahXephon is still great anime, I just wish they kept it deadly serious throughout, character design is top-notch in this one.
