Yeah, lots of movies get turned into books, although the industry seems to finaly be cooling on that idea. Jack Ruby was right, they're usualy horrid excuses of 225 pages written by some hack, found mostly at the supermarket newsstand. The last one I can clearly recall seeing was Daredevil. The last one I can remember reading was Willow (which, incidently, spawned a trilogy a while back)

2001: A Space Odyssey is a bit of an exception as the novel and the movie were conceived roughly at the same time, both being based on the same Arthur C Clarke short story. Kubrick and Clarke actually worked together, I believe.
So the film isn't an adaptation of the novel and the novel isn't an adaptation of the film, they evolved in syncronicity. So I recall anyway, correct me if I'm wrong. The best novelisation I ever read was Dick Tracy. Lousy film, great book. Pulp, pulp, pulp. |

I read the novelizations to the two Star Wars prequels -okay, call me a big dork-and they actually helped some of the stupid scenes make sense, because the author could flesh out and explain the ideas Lucas had but with which he had difficulty putting on the screen. Explanations for things like, how did a little kid who crashed into the control ship blow the thing up by shooting two things out of his small ship into the hanger and how come when everyone else gets hit by a light saber their limb falls off, but when Count Dooku hits Obiwan, he just has a really bad cut, etc...
As an aside, Lucas, I think has some great ideas and creations, but I really wish he would leave the writing and directing to someone else. Sorry to go off on a tangent. |
