I went to the screening last night, and I wasn't impressed. The movie is okay, too much violence. Story line is a little better than okay. They could have done a lot more to make this better. The effects were awesome.

Kate Beckinsale had the ONLY good part of Pearl Harbor - walking across the tarmac in a heart stopping red dress... She was also in the very disappointing Serendipity with John Cusack, and was good in The Golden Bowl.
I'm a big vampire fan, but this just looks horrible. I expect absolutely nothing out of Underworld, which may actually help me enjoy it. I'm usually surprised when my expectations are this low.

Looks interesting...but all I'm expecting is the basic action movie from this one. Hopefully it can get the job done.

just got back from watching it...
was interesting.... blends lots of different elements into some old legends... it was at least entertaining and campy at times. I remember when Vampires and Werewolfs were relegated to the B movie.... how far they have truly come...

W00t! saw it tonight, and really enjoyed myself. there were pieces that could be picked apart, but, it was a good movie. Decent plot, kick ass action, KB, what else do you need.
I thought it was interesting how underplayed the romance was. A good number of the people who talked to me before I saw it were calling it 'romeo and juliet with Vamps and werewolves' and that was not the impression that I came away with. Definately gonna get this one when it comes out.

i just saw it tonight, it was pretty cool, all things considered, really entertaining. it had some flaws, but nothing too horrendous, EXCEPT, the actor who plays Kraven (the head of the vampires) was just fucking bad. literally,he's just a shitty actor. terrible casting. the rest were fine though.

I saw it last night and I for one thought it was a good movie. Kept me entertained thats for sure. And Kate Beckinsale in leather makes it worth watching too.

I thought it was a cool, fun movie. Very entertaining. At least on par with the Blade franchise imo.
Though I am tiring of the hybrid with all the advantages idea...I mean, why wouldn't you have all the disadvantages of both races?? i.e. Blade that can't go out in sunlight, and has human strength

Just seen it and it is good for a bit of mindless entertainment. Please do not take any of your brain cells with you to watch this as they will not be needed. I did think it was a lot like Blade, which is not such a bad thing as that was a good film.

As for Kraven, it wasn't even that he was overdramatic, it was really that he was a 600 year old vampire living in a European city, with an American accent. i think he tried to go for something affected, but he failed miserably.

mm. saw it, last night. thoughts: it's good enough to download, but I'm hesitant about getting it on dvd. The modified bullets were a nice touch, though as hawkeye said, there are some parts that can be picked apart - notably the use of mirrors in the Vampyre residence. The underplaying of the romance was a nice touch, though it does seem to be set up for a sequel. granted, the film borrowed from Equlibrium and Matrix, but then again, "there's nothing new under the sun" - just patterns broken and rearranged to make us happy little servants of the media. but I digress. overall, worth the 6.50 to see in theaters, if you want a good action flick with very nice costume design, good special effects, and a decent storyline.

Minor spoilers.
t was a fun movie to see with friends, and had a lot of cool things thrown together in random ways. Michael just got shafted through 90% of the movie. The majority of his screen time was of him moaning while transforming, or groaning while being injected, or being knocked around. If I had cared about the plot, the ending would have left me wondering what happened to the rival races. I liked how the vampires had an awesome castle and partied all the time, while the lichen (sp?) screwed around in the sewers.. Victor was a complete badass. The vampires didn't suck blood except for one scene, and they showed up in mirrors, and used computers? That was kinda strange. |

Someone answer this for me
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER ************************** When Lucian gets shot by Kraven, how the hell did he live? Kraven shot him with those bullets that had the liquid nitrate in it. Those bullets, as explained by the black english vampire "head gun guy", were designed to get into the bloodstream, making it impossible for the werewolves to spit the bullets out, like Lucian did in the scene when he bit Michael. Also, if Viktor was the most powerful vampire, why didnt he dodge Beckinsale when she sliced him? Shouldnt he have been quick enough to see it coming? The only agrument I can see is that he was fighting the hybrid, and was weakened. But he had the upper hand and was about to kill Michael when it happened. So obviously the hybrid wasnt THAT strong.

as they demonstrate by pushing them or taking them out. Silver was described a more of a severe allergy to them. Lucian is also the most powerful of them, if not one of the oldest. He can take the nitrate a bit more, plus it was a new tech, so it might not have been tested in the field. There are many different reasons. Yes, Viktor was the strongest of them...however two things. One he was pre-occupied with his battle with Michael, and two, don't discount that she was one of the best Warriors, as you can see as she takes down about 4 of the other vampires easily. I really enjoyed this movie, I would recommend it to anyone and I'm planning on seeing it again. The FX was nice but not overdone for this type of flick. The visuals & settings were good The plot was excellent, it wasn't like anything I was really expecting. It wasn't like Blade, or Matrix, or Romeo must Die and the background wasn't taken from the White Wolf RPGs as expected. It was unique unto itself for the new gothic/action genre. and there enough twists to keep me guessing. I'm looking forward to the next one. I'll give the one four out of five stars. The only thing I want to know is...what kind of fucking handgun was she using? Because it sounded and acted like a machine gun, but I only saw clips being changed every few minutes. It was like they were just drawing them from another dimension. But go see it, I promise you'll enjoy it. |

saw it. the movie was pretty cool and has potential. the fact that it derrived a lot from other movies doesn't bother me as much as other things.
one thing i hated is the amount of rounds that she had in her pistols. they looked like standard clips that don't hold more than 10, 15 rounds at most. she kept shooting them like a fking machine gun, especially when she drilled a hole in the floor. then she would reload once every 10 minutes of shooting. also, she kept going back to the vamp mension over and over (always kicking the doors for some reason). every time she would open that dam door, the vamps would just sit there ALL the time rubbing on each other....doing absolutely nothing. that just annoyed me for some reason. overall, it was pretty entertaining, but the previews made it seem more bad-ass than it actually was. |

Underworld disappoints.
There are a couple threads back from when this was in the trailers, but I haven't seen one about the movie proper yet.
Saw it last night. The movie starts strong, decent effects, solid gunfighting, Beckinsale is hotness in her outfits. Then Kraven appears. Shane Brolly is one of the worst actors I've ever seen, and he sets the tone for the movie's demise. Accents come and go, fights begin to become ridiculous, enter the "Romeo and Juliet" aspect of the film. Various "plot twists" are thrown into the mix, everyone gears up for the massive war, more disappointing fights, end(I'm trying to keep this spoiler free). I give it 5.5/10, only because it had some moments of decent direction, Beckinsale, and the less-hamhanded-than-usual handling of the topic. Anyone else?

I was blown away by this movie (sorry if this is an old topic, I searched for it cuz I just saw it and nobody I know has :O), mostly because of Kate Beckinsale... she's beautiful. I just need one thing confirmed here.
********spoiler******** In the last scene where the Lycan is left bleeding in the Elder's room, does his werewolf blood leaking into Marcus' coffin mean anything when it comes to sequels? |

Just got in from seeing it myself, and while agree with some of the criticisms (especially of the actor playing Kraven), I thought it was rather well done.
When I saw the leather Kate was wearing I thought, "oh no, another 'Trinity'", but it wasn't that at all. The love story angle was also VERY tastefully underdone and the ending did surprise me (with whatshisname getting a dose of werewolf blood in his casket). So while some of it could have been done better, a good flick overall, worth adding to the vampire DVD library.
