I saw the trailer for the first time Saturday night. It's nothing I haven't seen before--The Matrix + The Crow + vampires + werewolves--but at the same time, it looks soooo cooooool. If the story's even halfway decent, it's going to be a great popcorn flick.

I first saw the trailer for this movie about 4 months ago (downloaded), then in the theaters more recently. It looks like The Matrix meets Blade, meets Dark City. The scene where the chick drops from the building, lands on the road, and walks away is soooo cool. Her move from crouch to walk is perfect!

i just hope their choice of cast doesnt completely kill this flick. i have never been impressed with Kate Beckinsale, and would never ever think of her for a part in an action movie. This scares me because I think it could mean they are focusing more on the vampire/werewolf love story rather than the action. If they do, this movie will never reach its full potential.

Yeah,
I have seen a few trailers for it myself on the web and its looks really cool. And yes, it is an interlude until Matrix Climax in November. Peace.

Either way, I just saw this trailer yesterday. Now, I hate to be a detractor here - especially because I think vampire movies rock and werewolves are pretty cool too I guess, but 1) a long-lasting blood fued betwen werewolves and vampires plus 2) a forbidden love between a vampire and werewolf? Sounds like Romeo & Juliet meets fantasy. I thought I was finished with that drivel when I finished freshman english and later when my AP english teacher agreed with me that R&J is one of Shakespeare's worst. I think I'll probably wait for video on this one - or at least until some of my friends see it and can review it for me. If they did without the love story I'd have much higher hopes for the movie.

And honestly some of this shots in the trailer were direct matrix ripoffs, as in exactly the same. Like an overhead pullback shot of a staircase as people are climbing it in an abandoned building. (just like the swat team after the "deja vu" scene in the Matrix) And they use a blue filter instead of a green one.

I think this actually looks pretty cool, but damn, it does look like it's rippin' off the matrix.

If it is a ripoff of the matrix....so what? All those who didn't like the matrix won't like it, and those of us that did will. I think that's pretty much it.
I think that for some time to come, most action movies are gonna have people in leather beating the crap out of each other with kung-fu (or whatever martial art of choice), simply because The Matrix set a standard of it. And while yes, that does limit originality, let us not forget that Hollywood is best at copying what someone else has already done. As for the movie itself, I think it shows great promise, and am looking foreward to seeing it friday. I think if you go in with an unbaised opinion, you will enjoy it more.

oh will this film just hurry up and come out!
i saw a preview a little while ago, and theres still no mention of a date for it coming out. i wonder if, for some reason it was delayed in its release? since there was a little bit of hype ages ago, and only now are we seeing the previews again.

I am personally looking forward to this movie, and I just found out at Penny Arcade that White Wolf is filing a suit against this movie. Apparently, they got a copy of the complaint here I read through a little of it.
White Wolf does seem to have some honest complaints, but still, if the writers had wanted to create a Romeo & Juliet meet Dracula and the Wolfman flick, I don't see how they could have done it much differently.

well folks, looks like we may all be waiting even longer, or possibly forever.
There is a lawsuit between White Wolf publishing and Sony Entertainment. Basically White Wolf is suing Sony because of certain likenesses between the settings, and possibly the characters. What this boils down to is that the movie will probably be delayed, or maybe even cancelled outright (thought how you cancel a movie that's already finished, I don't know, but you get the idea). If you want more info, www.penny-arcade.com has a column about it (somewhere) that has a link to the official document. Good luck getting through all the legal mumbo-jumbo, though. I could, but I watch way too much "Law & Order", so there you go.

Czernobog I read through that too, and I don't honestly think they have a leg to stand on here. I didn't see any instances where Underworld took directly from a White Wolf franchise. Yes, there are similarities, but no specific copyright infringement. PA said it best, if they're going to sue Sony for Underworld, where's the lawsuit for/against the Blade Franchise?
And seriously, it really does read like they're trying to say that they own the copyright on Vampires and Werewolves. Btw, love the nick. Good reference to a great book by an absolutely incredible writer /no threadjack intended

as far as 'ripping off the matrix' goes, you people do realize that the matrix was a direct rip off of several anime's correct? (for example, the whole bullet dodging thing comes straight out of cowboy bebop. )

Apparently Wes Borland has been writing the music for it, if I can remember correctly.
Yes. He's the gimp that became non-gimpy after quitting Limp Bizkit. Or, limpbizkit as Fred Durst's lates memo to the press told 'em to spell it.
