Godfather vs. Steven Segal
OK, I've had The Godfather Part III sitting on my shelf for quite a while, but for some reason I always passed it by. Well I finally let curiousity get the best of me and I'm glad I did. That had to be one of the best movies I've ever seen. I've never seen Parts I and II, but trust me, I will soon. Anyway, this got me thinking:
With movies like The Godfather out there, why was Steven Segal ever allowed to be in movies. Why are they making movies like Master of Disguise (don't get me wrong, I love Dana Carvy, but....) when we have SO many great movies. I'd much rather watch American Beauty over again before I'd see 2 Fast 2 Furious. Are people that stupid? I know that people always hop on the commercial bandwagon, but seriously, nobody can watch Reign of Fire and think "hmm... now that's some great movie making!" Now this is just me rambling on about something I'm sure most of you have already picked up on, but any have any thoughts on this? |

Now, Steven Segal making movies I can accept, but has anyone seen the one where he's some kinda environmental protection officer and in one scene he plays a guitar and sings a song about saving the planet? I thought I might have accidentally done acid, but it was real, ridiculous, completely ridiculous.

Yes, I watched "On Deadly Ground" yesterday! I like that he teaches everybody fastfood-Buddism by beating them up.
He's smarter nowadays; he's discovered the Buddy-system. Seagal + Rapper = Audience. Seagal keeps head above water, makes new buddy-movie.

Isn't Stephen Segal in a weekly rotation with all of his movies being shown on TNT on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Its seems like it. You are guarenteed to find a Stephen Segal movie playing every weekend. Its a travesty.

Second and third the notion that the first two parts of The Godfather are close to the best movies ever put on film Part III is ok, but felt like a "reunion" movie more than anything else.
Well, I think that like anything else, movies can be roughly divided up into 90% bad, 10% good. You simply can't have 100% good movies... Otherwise Steven Seagal WOULD have to, by definition, be in a good movie Of course by the time movies get to big international distribution status, the ratio might be closer to 40% good, 60% bad, but I stand by my theory. You never really have all good, you just have relative qualities. Err.. My head hurts now. Just like after watching the matrix.

That's the problem with Hollywood. For every one good movie they make, there are like ten really shitty ones. What annoys me is when they overhype some of the movies that are really bad (and are obviously bad based on the commercials), and people actually buy into the hype and go see them.

The Godfather I and II are arguably the greatest movies ever made. Part III, well, it was OK. Not anywhere near as good as the first two.
Callo me nutty, but I find it difficult to utter "Godfather" and "Steven Seagal" in the same sentence. I cannot take his movies seriously.

Strangely enough I watched all 3 Godfather - surely that should be spelt GodFather - films in one weekend for the first time ever about 2 weeks ago.
Both I and II were amazing. The first being my preference. Though the III was good but didn't match the first two. Go see them |

I can watch a Godfather 1 and 2 marathon till my eyes bleed, but the Godfather 3 should never have been made.
As for Steven Segal, the best thing he ever did was Kelly LeBrock
