Sugaring...Any experiences with it?

Okay Ladies...

After my somewhat horrific experience with my waxer (see the brazilian waxing thead), i've decided to switch to doing my waxing at home and came across a product known as 'Moom Sugaring Hair Removal Kit' http://www.folica.com/Moom_Sugaring_H_d260.html

Sugaring is described as "The original 100% natural, contains only sugar, water, lemon juice, chamomile and tea tree oil."

I have ordered the product because i'm a fan of smooth hair free pussy... So i'll let you know when i try it this week... but i was wondering...

Has anyone tried 'sugaring' and what experiences have you had with it?

thanks in advance for any advice!!

Nope have not tried the sugaring BUT my mom has tea tree oil concentrate and if you come to her house with a wound of any sort she will want to put some on. If have found that it soothes very well and is healing SOO in theory this wouldn't be as bad because of that ingredient. It does have a funny green smell but not bad really.

I haven't tried sugaring but I have heard of it and apparently it's milder than waxing. I would also suggest you have a look at a natural australian product that I hear is also very good and all natural, see it at

Sweetpea, I have never heard of this product so I can't tell you if it will work or not. However, I just wanted to say (and I'm sure you already know this ), please try it on an area away from your pussy like your ankle or something to see if it will have any adverse reactions. I would hate for you to be in pain. I'll be curious to see if the product really works, I'm very skeptical at time.

I've never heard of moom...but I did try the nads (which has similar ingredients) and it didn't do anything for me. It just couldn't seem to grip the hair well enough or something.

well, you asked

So, i got the MOOM Sugaring kit today... i have to say it appeared just as advertised. http://www.folica.com/Moom_Sugaring_H_d260.html

I heated it up to about the consistency of honey and got to work. The kit came with cotton strips, which i prefer, much easy to quickly pull up when you're not grabbing the product itself (as i often see 'stripless waxing kits, stay away from those! ouch!)

Now, i like to do the full brazilian look, and the kit suggested you let it grow out to at least 1cm before suagaring, it had a pleasant smell as it is made of all organic materials... so i applied the product with the supplied applicator stick. The important thing was to not overheat the product, it should not be too hot, so i followed those directions. I applied the lukewarm product about 1 inch wide and i had my pile of cotton strips ready...

i put the strip on, smoothed it against the product and let it settle for a few moments, took a deep breath and pulled (always pull opposite the hair direction and as close to your body as possible) Surprisingly, it didn't hurt as much as waxing (as they had promised). It was not 'painless' but it wasn't bad at all and it pulled up all my hairs where it had been right from the root! I repeated this process until i was totally bare and the results were just as smooth and hair free as waxing. So i would say that the MOOM Sugaring kit is going to be my new best friend It only cost 19 dollars and you can reuse the cotton strips, and i would say i am going to get about 4 waxings out of the kit (good thing about the kit, is that they include 15 cotton strips which can be washed and reused for years... i washed them and they came clean as promised, ready for another round).

So compare 19 dollars for FOUR waxings to the 50 dollars for ONE waxing that i was paying the savings are obvious... i also enjoyed being in the comfort of my home and not having to make small talk with someone while they worked For me, it was easier to do the sugaring myself instead of having someone else like i do when i get waxed. The package promises that it will last up to 8 weeks, so i'll have to see about that. But since it got the hairs at the root, that means it'll be a good three weeks before i'll see hair again and i like that

I would highly recommend this Suagring product

Also, i got TendSkin, because i sometimes break out in a slight red rash after waxing, so i also tried that after sugaring and it made the redness go away immediately.... now my skin and smooth and bare and not the least touch of redness.. here is the link to that product http://www.folica.com/Tend_Skin__4_fl_d113.html

So yes, i would recommend the Moom Sugaring kit and also the TendSkin

I'm pretty darn happy right now and feeling very sexy and confident

OK, I gotta ask: Did you do the central inner area? Just to be clear, heh.

I used to be full-brazilian waxed for years, have lately done the permanent laser hair removal (which is great, by the way. Very happy with the results), but they don't do umm, between the lips (which would be very painful, I'd imagine, with the laser!!). So that area still requires maintenance. Bah. This sounds promising.

Thanks for the report!

Hey there,

Well, i didn't have enough time to do between the lips... but i'm planning on it next time. I did do all the outer part though with mostly success (still a few hairs down in that part left afterwards, but got most of them). The trick is to put it on as thinly as possible and then rub the strip on. I assume i'll get better at it the more i do it

Hey wow, this sounds really cool and much better than waxing professionally (or even at-home wax kits, which I haven't liked much). I may have to give it a try!!

Well... if i can do a brazilian wax with it, which is one of the most sensitive areas on the body... then i think arms would be no problem Give it a try!

Definitely cheaper than paying to get waxed!

I never thought I'd gather up the courage for this, but I had a surge of madness well up and just went for it. I have been thinking for a long time about better ways to remove all the hair from my area and the idea of hot wax, frankly, is terrifying. I looked up homemade recipes for body sugaring paste and ended up using this one: 2 cups sugar, 1/4 cup lemon juice and 1/4 cup water. I heated it in a saucepan until it was boiling and syrupy and let it cool for a long time (I'm very heat sensitive). Then I went at it!

I have to say, as someone who NEVER in a million years thought she would be saying this, it didn't hurt as badly as I thought it would. I am sporting a rather funny do because I didn't finish the job, but that isn't because it hurt too badly; I was just using a plastic spoon to apply it and the sugar paste was getting everywhere. I had to go into the shower to rinse off all the stickiness just now, but then the soap in my pores (the ones that bled a little) really stung--a lot worse than ripping off the strips--and so I decided to call it quits for the night.

The funny thing is that it hurt a lot less to do the tender area near my holes than it did to do the top of the mound. I may take it back about it not hurting so bad tomorrow when I return to that area, but I have to say that all in all it wasn't very unpleasant. After this, I don't see any point in EVER trying wax. I'll report back once I've had 100% success.

I posted this in the brazillian wax thread but no takers- has anyone ever heard of/used No Scream Cream ? My waxer lady says none of the topical benzocaine creams work because they don't penitrate deep enough to numb the hair follicle, *but* in my logic, if a lot of the pain comes from the wax sticking to the skin and the skin is numb, wouldn't it hurt a lot less? Would love to see if anyone has used it!

THANK YOU SWEETPEA FOR YOUR *AMAZING* ADVICE!!!!

The actual ripping out of the hair wasn't bad, just a little shocking. but, the AFTER, is bad. so, I need some advice. I have tons of swollen folicles at the moment, from the toughies, and a little blood, and it hurts...is that normal?or am I just tooo sensitive.

Hmm, that's the same problem with me. I had another go at it, but this time I tore some pretty sensitive skin in addition to the little bloody swollen follicles. The worst part is washing the sugar away with soapy water. It stings like hell! So far I've only worked on two installments and I still have a funny 'do and a relatively hairy mound. I don't know what to tell you, veruca, but I'll certainly let y'all know when I've figured something out.

I was thinking that if I did super small areas, it would work better.
I have trouble getting the lips tight enough to get a good pull...the parts next to the leg and at the top weren't too bad.

No, you should do it. I am definitely a fan... methinks it's just going to take a while to perfect. I only learned two things so far:

1) It's wise to do it in small strips (no bigger than the length of two digits on your fingers and two fingers' width). Stripping large areas at once will cause crippling hurt--agony even.

2) A helper person would probably really come in handy. It's hard enough with the really wrinkly skin on the lips that retract like a nutsack in a cool breeze... but to try and hold them taut and simultaneously apply the sugar paste & cotton strip properly--oh my!! A sister needs some assistance with that.

Supple: I looked at the recipe website for the home deal and had some questions...

1) What is a candy thermometer, and where can I get one for cheap? I only have a meat thermometer...

2) What kind of cloth strips are suitable? Should I just go to the fabric store and buy any old kind of cotton cloth?... how thick should it be? I have no idea.

1) I just used a meat thermometer, but it didn't go high enough so I pulled it out when it reached the thermometer's maximum temperature and let it boil for another minute or so. Really, you can just watch it until it's boiling and it turns clear. You'll notice the transformation take place.

2) I just cut up an old t-shirt. Thinner cotton strips from the cloth store would probably work too, though.

Sweetpea - do you put the tendskin on right afterward or do you rinse the area first? The problem I have is that the sugar paste gets everywhere and I really need to rinse off afterward. The soapy water that gets the sugar off is what makes the follicles sting.

I have to say that home waxing/sugaring or whatever kits are all very well, but coming from someone who has quite deep and tough follicles like veruca said, trust the professionals. There's just nothing that can beat it, I think. It may still hurt, but it's quicker, hurts less, hurts for less time, and the results are near perfect.

However much we give our thoughts the will
To be our soul and gesture it abroad,
Our hearts are incommunicable still.
In what we show ourselves we are ignored.
The abyss from soul to soul cannot be bridged
By any skill of thought or trick of seeming.
Unto our very selves we are abridged
When we would utter to our thought our being.
We are our dreams of ourselves, souls by gleams,
And each to each other dreams of others' dreams.

You don't have to use soapy water to get the sugar off- in my experience it just melted away.

Also, I made my own at home, and I don't think it ever got to the "hardball" stage- when it's in the jar, it's still kinda gooey when I poke at it (it also sticks to my finger). What texture is it supposed to be when thoroughly cooled?

When it's thoroughly cooled, it's just stiffer, but still gooey and very sticky.

Sage - It melted away in the hot water of the shower?

abaya...you should be able to get a candy thermometer at a grocery store in the kitchen gadgets section. I think ours cost about $5 or $6.

I want to try this, but I have waxed myself once and it hurt like the dickens. I despise shaving though....I may just have to suck it up and try it....

actually, it melted away with the cool water of the washcloth! It's just like heavy syrup- all you need to clean it up is water. Sugar dissolves in water- in hot water, doubly so! No soap needed!

I've already PM-ed Supple about this, but just wanted to say that I tried the recipe at home as well... not much success, I'm afraid. I think I had the same problem as Sage... the whole mix was very gooey, not very sticky (not enough to yank out hairs, at least), and in general the cloth strips didn't "tear" out much more than 1-5 hairs at a time. Ktspksp and I both worked on different ways to apply the stuff, but to no avail.

Perhaps we did not boil it long enough? I wonder if it works better when it's cold, since then it is more stiff? I tried spreading it on VERY thinly, which seemed to pull off just a few more hairs, but not enough to make it worth it! Also, perhaps the length of hair makes a difference? Some of mine are quite short due to a recent trimming... dunno if that is good or bad. Also, I bought 100% cotton muslin cloth for the strips, but perhaps this is too fine to stick well.

Any more tips from ladies who have tried it here?
