Bras and Sizes

OK I got a question , well more like an annoying peeve.
How many women are in my shoes.
I love sexy lingerie, and the cute bras with little characters or sparkles, sheer lace all kinds of stuff like that. Problem is I have a large breast size (38D) and have a hard time finding anything like that fits. I go into stores and I find tons of stuff in the 20 and 25 dollar range that I love. I spend 20 minutes looking on the racks and cant find one thats even going to come close to fitting everything is for the A , B , and C cup people (No offence). I feel like im being punished for having a large chest when everything on the racks are for smaller breasted women. When I do end up finding anything in my size its not even remotely the same and they want 2 to 3 times more money for it. I ask the clerk if they have any in my size and she tells me that not many companys will make the larger sizes. I can find the regular Wonder , Warners bras that are still plain and still cost about 30 to 40 bucks a piece but they are far from sexy. Lingerie is impossible unless I m willing to spend like 60 to 80 in a department store, and 80 to a 100 in a boutique.
Any suggestions?

I'm on the other end of this problem - I'm a 32A, and while I can sometimes find something cute, usually they either don't even SELL my size, or they're all gone, or they're just utilitarian black/white/beige boring bras.

I have a friend who's large-chested, though, and she finds the same situation you describe - Victoria's Secret and the like just don't cater to the ends of the spectrum.

I am a 34A- I used to have B's, but after I stopped breastfeeding they shrunk. It's ok- I like the lacy, pretty stuff too- but I tend to be comfy in the "sweater bra" it's comfy and slightly padded. I have some lacey things for those special times, though........

I'm between two sizes. So it's really irritating to go bra shopping, because it's hard to find something that's inbetween cups. I hate wearing bras, so if I'm gonna buy one it better be comfortable, ya know? And it's not easy to find sexy cutsie ones like that... but hey... I'm not gonna be needin' those for a while anyway....... hmph

Hey not sure where it is but I do know that late last year (sometime in sept or oct ) a company came out with half size bras. So it is now possible to find a/b , b/c ect. cup sizes.

I too am on the oppoiste end of the problem, I'm a 32 aa - 32 a, and so the really cute styles are almost always too big. We'll just have to start our own store.

I have the same problem as Yalaynia. I am 38 C and my size is just not easy to find unless I want something ho hum and dull as dirt. The only bit of relief I have is trying the next band size up, say a 40 C, which sometimes fits and sometimes does not. But still, it is hard to find anything more than basic in the larger sizes. I try to tell myself that all the other "normal sized women" have already come and gone. But then that makes me resent those who took the bra that should have been mine.

What I end up doing is hitting the lingere sales at all the local stores, grab up everything that looks close to my size (38 - 40 B/C) and try it all on. I am lucky if I try on 15 bras and one fits.

I understand what you are going thru, Yalaynia. The best advice I can give you is to try things on, always keep your eyes open, and be willing to shell out the $30 once in a while. In the mean time, hit those sales and buy bras that you don't care about.

I got you beat w/a pair of 38DD's and I feel your pain. i worked in a dept store for awhile, and i know that there really just AREN'T that many! I can think of 2 brands that carry "pretty" bra's for "full figured' women (god i hate that term) and the rest of it looks like artilery. keep your eyes out, though, I've found a few pretty lacey-type stuffs on accident... not much in teh way of prints of colors, but materials at least. good luck!

i too, share your frustration. even if you can find D cups in lingerie... they aren't "true" D cups, and they offer NO support. i can't believe that with all of the materials, new fabrics, etc. out there that someone can't make a better bra for a large breasted woman. swimsuits are at least starting to get a little better.

I have found that i have to just suck it up and spend the $$ if i want something nice that fits. And when i find something that looks and fits great... i almost never pass it up... it's much too rare a find!

you are not alone in this one...

I have a hard time finding bras myself. I am a 38DD and find that Lane Bryant can have some okay bras from time to time and if you get them when they are on sale they are not a bad price. The problem with this is the matching underwear are usually too big for me

I have also occassionally found a decent bra at Victoria's Secret, but they are usually very expensive. One secret to shopping at Victoria's Secret is to ask the salesperson to just grab you every bra they carry in your size (they usually have a set of drawers by the dressing room with them in there). Try them all on to find one you like the best and then worry about color.

The answer! Most are kinda pricey but everything I've gotten from here has lasted me so far (at least 2 years):

www.bravissimo.com

It's a London-based company so shipping sucks, but like I said, it's been worth it for me to have non-granny bras that fit!

I have found that the 38 B seem to fit me best. But most places don't have that number with cup combination. I usually end up finding a 36B where my boobs fall out the top often or a 38C where the strap is too loose and lets my boobs fall out the bottom - even when I hook it on it's tightest. It's crummy going bra shopping. I can spend hours and still not find something that fits. Especially the nice bras. The odd sizes are only found with very plain or almost ungly looking styles. Grrr. I also don't have a lot to spend on bra. I did find that nursing bras fit me nicely when the have adjustable cups. I can buy the size I want and set the cup to the size I need. Works great. Not exactly real sexy though.

Phew, for a minute there I was freeking out!

I have an 80B, but apparently a 'European 80B' corresponds with a fairly reasonable 'US' 36B, so I'm not that "extra-breastial" as I thougt!

Anyway, I hate 'bra-shopping': you spend houres in a tiny lockerroom, fitting millions of bra's and most of the time the only ones that fit you are those you didn't even like in the first place!

I normally have an 80B (so a 36B for you Yankee-girls) but it's more often the case that a 80B is way too small while a 75A (which is normally too small) can be miles too big.

It is as if the guys who make them misplace the labels on purpose, probably working in close alliance with those guys who monitore the security-cams in the lockerrooms !

yeah, i guess it has to do something with centimeters and our whole metric system... but still, there most be something really strange going on here in Europe.

The thing is: we have the European measures (in this case: 80A), the US-size (36A) but then apparently there are 'specifications' for France and Spain! In those countries I would have as big a breasts as 95A!!!!

I don't know what's so different with French and Spanish boobies, I've visit both countries and the women all looked pretty normal to me! Anyone has a clue?

Let's see. I have been sized at a 38DD, but sometimes need something bigger. Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. There is the ever popular white- with 4 hooks on the back to the normal two, black, and granny beige. There are no cute matching sets, no lacy colors, and defnintley nothing comfortable. When I do find something a little more fun or wild, I try it on and it is too small.

That is another thing- why don't all bras have a universal size? I can try on four different brands of bras, all the same size, and maybe fit into one of them. It is the same with jeans- in one brand, I can fit a size 12, in another, a size 14, and in some, only a size 18. It really gets depressing sometimes.

Exactly!!!

To continue my "European differentiation story": if you want to buy a simple pair of pants, I wouldn't recommend buying it in Italy! I (from Belgium) have a 38 à 40 normally, but that would correspond with a 46 in Italy, which can be very upsetting, I tell you. They might have great fashion-designers and beatiful shops, they make you feel like an elephant in it!
While, if you would be shopping in Germany, for whatever strange reason, you'd manage to fit nicely into a lovely 36!

Makes me glad that I'm not an Italian 'donna' after all!

You'd figure, if we manage to pay with a single currency here, we would at least be able to fit in each others pants.

there's nothing in this world i hate more than buying bras.
atm the moment i have some extra acquired pounds that i desparately need to lose asap. so, i really need a bra somewhere in between a 36 & a 38 & also somewhere in between an A & a B. these bras do not exist. so i am uncomfortably resigned to wearing my old 36Bs which i know isn't good, but one any bigger just flops around on me. and that is more even annoying than being stuffed into the ones i already have. ):

I agree with everyone here. I HATE bra shopping. I'm one of those in between sizes. I can wear a 32DD or a 34D. I can sometimes get away with wearing a 34C depending on the bra style. I walked into Victoria's Secret the other day and had the hardest time finding a bra that could fit me and this is with the help of a salesperson.

Sigh. I'd be 40DD, just for a day, to see if I like it. 32 A is just so...

small .

Ah well. I know there are advantages. Like being able to go braless, and sleep on my stomach. But honestly, is a C cup so much to ask? Alas.

Just wait until after childbirth. If you breast-feed (which you should if at all possible), you might get close.

Pre-pregnancy: tight 38D. Maxxed at 44F about six weeks after having Helen. Back to loose 38D now.

My nursing bras had better support at 44F than did regular ones at 38D. BTW do *NOT* buy an underwire nursing bra unless you like personal torture. Two women who were pregnant when I was make that mistake and suffered thru blocked milk ducts for it.

Ktthequeen, thank you for that link.

I am used to european sizing so don't know what 80D corresponds to. (After Googling: Apparently 36D) I lost two cup sizes when I lost weight and I love the shape of my boobies and that they are big and the nipples and everythin. It's actually the only thing I get regularly admiring comments on from both sexes. I would like to lose more weight but heck I don't want these to start sagging. Waaaahaaa!

I love Gossard's & Lejaby's stuff and have found big enough sizes in them. They aren't the cheapes, but hey! Bra really last a long time unless your size changes so think of them as an investment. And get the more expensive brands from sales. I usually end up saving 20% or more that way.

I hate bra shopping, I don't have much in the way of sexy bras. I am 36DD but depending on the brand sometimes just a 36D but those are even a bit small, it is another reason why i don't wear many dresses because if I buy something that fits on top it's too big on bottom, and all the cute shirts are never big enough either

grrrrrrrr....

hey

a story and a recomendation:

story:

last week i was in gap body and this pushy sales girl insisted on measuring me even though i told her i'd been measured not 3 months ago at nordstroms (where they confirmed that i'm somewhere between a 34d and a 34DD -- right where i've been for years) -- but she won't let it go, so i finally submit to the tape measure -- and she looks me in the eye and says "you're a 40A!" -- "excuse me? an A cup?" i say... and she nods and says "of course we don't make that size at all, you could try a 38B." I had no words -- it's not possible to look at me and think "A cup." I had to leave the store.

and now the recomendation:

there's a little company called felina (http://www.felinausa.com/ -- excuse the annoying music) who specializes in really cute/sexy lacey little bras for well endowed girls.... they carry them at nordstroms and macy's and i even found a cheap one at fileens basement in boston!
