Not to steal the thunder of an afore posted thread, but I do need ideas.

I am throwing an Art party. Not a party where people look at art, or buy art, but where they make art. You see, I was inspired at the Summer Arts Festival this year when I saw the children's section. Kids were able to decorate their own cookies, paint a frisbee using a spin-paint machine, do sand art and many other things. But since I was an adult, I was unable to participate. So, I am throwing an adult art party.

My ideas so far are to have a tee-shirt station where you can design your own teeshirt graphics and print them off using iron-transfer paper (btw if any of you know a good program for this on an apple, let me know), a pirate art station where you can decorate your own eyepatch, a Pollock station in the basement, a fingerpaint station, and a collage station. I need more ideas, though.

Sculpting - Make your own playdough (have them make naughty parts)

Make jewelry using either pasta (that they can paint) or colored ring cereal(the genereic Fruit Loops)

Tye Dying

Start collecting wine bottles or get some cheap glasses and some glass paints a-nd Voila - Tiffany Art Glass...

I've seen a number of places where they give you white unfired plates and cups and the like, which you can paint in the store. When you are done you give it to them, and they fire and glaze it for you and you can pick it up the next day. Perhaps you could find a place such as this and work out a deal, so that you can bring the stuff home, and bring it back to get fired at a later date?

MS Publish has some templates for the really challenged, but there are instructions on how to do swans, and other things...

Flower Power
Using Tissue paper, pipe cleaners and some glitter for fun, make paper flowers...

make the entrance into the party they have to give you a piece of art... or send everyone the same picture and they have to decorate it and give it back for judging...

This sounds like it would be a fun party...

Okay, so here is the lineup so far. We don't have much space, so we can't do anything huge.

Pirate art- decorate your own eyepatch.
Graphic design art- design your own tee shirt
Collage Art
Paint/Sketch/Stamp/Charcoal/Crayon Art
Jackson Pollock Art
Model/Photography- dress up and have your picture taken or take a picture
Pizza or Cookie Art
Possibly tyedying, depending on the space needed and the weather
And I am definitley looking into those sun prints.

This is not all inlusive. I am headed out to Hobby Lobby to see what they have to offer.

BTW- does anyone have any advice on making a canvas for the Jackson Pollock art?

There's this cool inkjet paper you can buy that's actually magnetic (it's like 1/8 inch thick). Take your collages, scan then, shrink them down in the scanner's image editing software, and print them out as refrigerator magnets! To save cash, try to print out three or four on the same sheet.

Get construction paper, glitter, markers, feathers, and other fun things and make crazy hats.

I did tye-dye the other day and had five different colors...all I really needed was my kitchen counter space (and I have a small counter). Everyone could bring an old white t-shirt to do.

Shrinky-dinks. Some craft stores sell plain shrinky-dink paper and you can design your own with colored pencils.

I hope your party is a success, it sounds like a lot of fun!!!

I think body and face painting can be fun and artistic; it can also add a little riske' spice to the party if you want it to go in that direction; I like the suggestion of body tattoos, henna tattoos seem to be quite popular now.

I also like to consider a bowl full of vanilla ice cream to be a blank canvas just waiting for decorations like colorful gummy candies, JacksonPollack-style syrup drippings.

Maybe start a communal mobile hanging from a ceiling lamp or even outside on a tree, and let people add to it and change it as it develops.

I like the idea of the Pollock art station. That'll get messy so fast.

A few months ago, a friend of mine hoping to be an art therapist threw an art therapy night together, and had a bunch of art supplies for us to just go nuts on, inks, charcoal, crayons, even some oil-based paints. It was a blast.

What you seem to be going for is a bit more structured though...hmm...

Maybe some kind of jewelry making area? That's an artistic venture.

If I were to hold such an event, I would arm the Pollock station with several cheap paintball guns and a mix of multicolored paintballs. A heat lamp will dry the paint and leave the dye on the canvas. Make sure you have thick canvas if you do this.

I love this idea. I must mention though - I have taught a number of classes in Origami. I've taught them for all ages. Children area capable of following the instructions almost better than adults. It is VERY difficult to teach. If you were to pursue this idea there are a few things that you can do to improve the success of this idea.
1. Make sure you get some Origami paper instead of just plain white paper. The common weight paper works well but the Origami paper has a colored side and a lighter side - this gives people a good reference point when they are trying to follow directions.
2. Have very small groups of people - I'd suggest no more than 3 or 4 per helper/teacher for the Origami station.
3. Pick something very simple and have instruction sheets for some more complicated designs to challege the more able persons. Some people just cannot catch on to this art design while other's just take off with it.

Dunno if you'll do this but just had to give my 2 cents worth because I LOVE Origami.

Depending on your personal level of bizarre, you can make fish prints. Carp make excellent block-printing stamps. Get them fresh from a local reservoir or large stream. Roll out block printing ink very thinly, press fish on plate, press fish on t-shirt or paper, wash fish for re-use and let the art dry.

Drinks of different colors can be layered in glasses if the sugar or salt content or temperature is different enough.

Make musical instruments: go to the dollar store and buy tubes, funnels, buckets, plastic doodads, fishing line, etc. Don't forget the duct tape.

...and always have an extremely eclectic collection of music rotating through the air to inspire a bit more creativity.
