I've seen a number of places where they give you white unfired plates and cups and the like, which you can paint in the store. When you are done you give it to them, and they fire and glaze it for you and you can pick it up the next day. Perhaps you could find a place such as this and work out a deal, so that you can bring the stuff home, and bring it back to get fired at a later date?
