Sprint and Nextel:
Bringing the desire to "screw the customer" into the 21st century. New company expects lots of 'operational problems' and general 'merger confusion,' but is confident that it will right on track with screwing the customer out of more money for unwanted/unneeded services by nickel and dime-ing you to death on your next bill. In other words, as far as the customer is concerned it will be business as usual. Mergers of "equals" is usually only good for the "equals" involved. It's usually not all that great for the end-user. Of course, I may be wrong. Maybe this new Sprint/Nextel giant will cure cancer, finally procure world peace or feed the hungry. And maybe you'll just get a new "cool" phone that is a "must-have" for the next 2005 holiday season

I dont know, right now nextel phones(just the phones) could kiss my ass.. I HATE their phones. Customer service has been great, reception great and no 2 way issues. I had sprint and was anxious about the merger since I liked Sprint when I had them and the phones were extremely durable. I think I am the only one who is having real issues with my phone, nobody in my family has issues with their nextel and nobody I know has issues with their nextel(and I just about crapped when I figured out how many people I know with nextel) so I think its just me
Im excited about the merger though, damn near everyone I know has sprint or nextel. |

Does this mean I'll get double the crappy service area, double the choices of crappy phones, and double the crappy customer service?
Will my next Sprint phone (hypothetical, I'm switching to Verizon) have that walkie talkie feature with the beeping that makes me want to strangle people for using it in public? |

IMO less service providers = less choices and higher prices for consumers.

I think that Merger will have a whole lot of problems.
First of all Nextell uses a TDMA Iden network, and Sprint is using ev-do CDMA. The 2 technologies are not compatible. I forsee a forced migration for all the nextell customer to switch to sprint phones and sprint plans. I can see alot of people wanting to switch to another carrier if that happens. The mega company thing does provide alot of benifits though. It means they have more buying power and sway with manufacturers to get better phone and a better selection, and can some customisable features for them that other carriers might not use. Also it means that they could potentially bring down the cost of rate plans and fees (although this will probably never happen). Logically there was a second merger to come when the att/cingular merger happened. Without that merger there would be a great imbalance between the major national companies. So now the big players will be Cingular, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon. 4 choices is still a good number of choices. Of course there are a few other smaller fish, and regional, and local companies to pick from as well. |

I asked this the last time cell phones and Nextel came up in discussion and I don't think I got an answer then... What is the point in those damn walkie talkie phones?

I love my Cingular...no problems and the best customer service you can ask for! I do fear the day I run into an ex-AT&T rep, those assholes need to learn how to do their job and not be dicks to their customer.

im verry excited for this merger.....
nextel has superr great coverage.. while sprint has excelent service. i doubt either 1 has wonderfull customer service although sprint has been trying to up that antis.... the way i see it sprint will adopt te nextell towers and their coverage area greatly increasing there current coverage. since sprint dosnt own most of their towers so i can only assume they will auction off the ones of nextell that "double" ( in the same spot). of course anyone who thinks this will hapen over night with no hitches must be trippin ( on acid) im sure the transiton year will suck but thats still a year away so this little camper wil just sit tight on wait to see what happens.

I'm stoked as a Sprint customer. I really think there are a lot of benefits on both ends for everyone. Sprint does have great customer service and good coverage where I need it. I had Verizon prior to Sprint and they were just dicks to me--any time I needed anything done it took twice as long and was twice as hard to do in comparison to my experience with Sprint. Hopefully adding Nextel will improve my coverage and keep the standard of service high.

What's with all the cellular service providers merging together. Cingular and AT&T, Sprint and Nextel.
Now all thats left if for Verizon to merge with Virgin. Founding the new company, Vergin. That would leave us with The New Cingular, Sextel, and Vergin as the three major players in the cell phone world. I'm waiting for all of them to finally merge together, and form the world's largest wireless network; The New Sextular Vergin. Just you wait and see, all you cynics. Just you wait and see...

You're all forgetting T-Mobile which is what I have. I'm happy with them atm. They're starting to get better phones and I'm thinking of getting the new Blackberry phone. My only complaint is lack of signal at my house.
