Dimebag Darrell got killed on stage! WTF!!!

Story http://www.nbc4i.com/news/3983630/detail.html

Quote:
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- At least five people died and two others were wounded after a shooting at a Columbus nightclub on Wednesday night, NBC 4 reported.

The shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. at Alrosa Villa, located at 5055 Sinclair Road.

Two members of the heavy metal band Damageplan were reportedly shot and killed, including Dimebag Darrell, formerly with the band Pantera, NBC 4's David Wayne reported. The other band member's name was not released. The alleged gunman also died at the scene, Wayne reported.

Shortly after the band began playing its first song, a man reportedly ran onto the stage and began shooting, according to a witness who identified himself as Sean. Some members of the audience reportedly thought the man running onto the stage with a gun was part of the band's act, NBC 4's Erin Tate reported.

Witnesses said that several shots were fired at the band. Witnesses said that a bouncer at the club tackled the alleged gunman before that person was shot and killed. It was unclear as to whom shot the alleged gunman.

NBC 4 reported that of the surviving victims, one person was in critical condition while the other was in fair condition. Several others were treated at the scene, suffering from various injuries.

Alrosa Villa is a popular north Columbus nightspot for young adults, featuring rock and heavy metal bands, NBC 4 reported.

According to the band's Web site, Damageplan was touring nationally. It performed in Buffalo, N.Y., on Tuesday night and had a concert scheduled in Flint, Mich., on Thursday.

Damageplan featured former Pantera artists Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. The pair were joined by vocalist Patrick Lachman and bassist Bobzilla, according to their Web site.
I'm in total shock. Dimebag is dead! What do you guys think of this? My friends think I'm insane for flipping out over this, but Dime and Pantera are huge to me.

Of course everyone expresses more sympathy for Dime, hes the one people have actually heard of. He is also the only one whos name has been officially released. It sucks for the others, but of course Dimebag is gonna catch everyone's attention.

Which is what's so wrong with the whole situation. Simply because the guy is more widely known (although I've never heard of him), his loss is more tragic than the other four. It's a sick way of thinking.

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of Dave Mustaine He was an origional member of Metallica, but got kicked out cuz he never showed up to practice and was a raging alcoholic. Then he started Megadeth. Apologies to myself for hijacking my own thread. DOH!

It is in no way more tragic, he just someone that most people have heard of. You may think I'm an ass for this, but I dont shed tears every time I hear of someone dying, only those I care about.

Seeing as his name is the only one that has been released so far, that's to be expected. There's a thread on this subject in Tilted Music, and this is my summary:

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/12/09/ni...ting/index.html

They confirmed that Darrell is dead, and didn't ID release the name of the other band member yet. Police don't release names until next-of-kin are notified, and since Vinnie was Darrell's brother, he would be the one notified, and therefore the police could release his name immediately.

Eyewitnesses say that the guitarist (Pat Lachman, also in Halford and Diesel Machine,) was shot four times, which means that he's most likely the other band member who died.

The bouncer who tried to pull the gunman off of Lachman was also shot at close range and killed.

An employee there posted on an MTV forum that it was a guitar tech, not the guitarist, who was killed.

He also said that the shooter was screaming about breaking up Pantera and ruining his life.

that is just such a sad commentary on our society... that no one would think it's not normal for a person to run on stage with a gun?

I've never heard of the guy who was killed or the band - -but would that really be part of the act?

That's because we're old, mal. I never heard of Dimebag Darrell, either. Although I have heard of Pantera, I'm not all that familiar with them. I do agree with the "sad commentary on our society" part. I'd better just stick with my Jazz and Big Band.

This sucks. Although I feel sorrow for all that were killed I feel more sorrow knowing that Dimebag is dead. He was an animal. For those that don't understand why people place more focus on someone like this, here's my reason. The man made good music. Some of that music is a a part of me. His death brings death to a very small part of me. I can't really explain it in other terms than that.

Quite possibly going to be one of the biggest tragedies for dallas this year. I remember listening to damageplan do local shows trying to get a national break and now to see it end this way. Truly saddening.

it is a very sad day in the world of metal. imho he was one of the most talented and influential guitarist to come out of the 90's. I only got to see pantera live once, and just saw damageplan in september. Dimebag's guitar work was always awe inspiring

We don't need you trolling on this thread. Go somewhere else. People here are mourning the death of one of the top guitarists in the music industry. Look at the reaction Kurt Gobang got and that sorry piece of shit killed himself.

This is probably the most tragic event for metal since the death of Cliff Burton. I never gave Damage Plan a chance because I was pissed that Pantera broke up. I had been holding out hope for a reunion tour. I guess that won't happen.

good reference to burton...but i think this is far more analagous to randy rhodes. had rhodes stayed alive, there is no telling where rock might be today. and with darrell gone, we'll have no way of knowing where metal might have gone.

if its all the same though, my vulgar display of power still sounds every bit as good as it did the day i bought it...on cassette.

Rhodes only because they were both guitarists but Burton was the one of the most innovative bassists in rock music. He is the one who guided the change in metallica that took place between Kill 'Em All and Ride the Lightening. He gave them the melody.
