I always hate to hear about somebody getting killed for no good reason, but I can't spare any of my limited sympathy on a guy who purposely chose the name "Dimebag." Why do people place such importance on drugged up musicians and actors?

First of all, everyone take a step back and calm down. I don't want to see this thread get out of control. That includes baiting and overreacting to honest opinions.
That said, this was a tragedy for all who died and their families.

Some posts on this thread are a prime example of what TFP is not, it disgusting that people would take this opportunity to make snide comments about dead people and fans of Darrell. My sympathy go out to all those affected by this situation RIP

Now, to get back on topic in the light of the tragedy.... I never really knew much of the guy, but I definitely know he had a large following. I remember a kid in a music class I recently took did a final report on Pantera, and more specifically Darrel. He was a really nice guy and was such a loyal fan for really pure reasons. Beyond Darrel, I'll pray for this kid and the other many fans as well cause I'm sure there's many saddened by this.

I really dont have much to say about this, or to be more honest, I honestly dont know what to say. I've been listening to Pantera since I was like 13, and I really dug Damageplan too. This is just terrible. While reading as much as I could about it, I found that Blabbermouth has posted a bunch of other musician's opinions about this. If you're interested click here. I don't understand how people get so emotional and attached to musicians they never met and don't really know. I suppose this goes for all celebrities, but it seems almost cult like with musicians.

I would personally mourn the bouncer more than I would Dimebag. He could have run away and lived, but instead, he charged the gunman and tried to stop his rampage, and gave his life trying. That man is a true hero.

It is always sad to see ANYONE killed, and particularly so, when such senseless violence is the cause.

I've been listening to Pantera since Vulgar Display of Power came out in '92. The first concert I ever went to was Pantera, Sepultura and Prong in Spokane, WA in the summer of 1994. Since that day, I joined one of the biggest, most loyal fan bases in music. There's a reason why a band that got zero recognition and zero airplay was able to crate as big a following as they did. Their music helped me through some really tough times and communicated a very positive message. A message of inner strength, individuality, letting go of past pain, not caring what others think of you, and the concept of being UNSCARRED. Listening to their music has helped shape who I have become today and I am a better person today for having listened to Pantera's music. Losing Darrell is a tremendous blow to a huge amount of people. People who don't know their music aren't going to get it. I'm trying to explain why losing Darrell is as big a deal as it is but I don't know if it will ever come across to people who's lives have never been touched by his music.
He was a guitar genius. To my fellow Pantera fans, I am with you in spirit. In Darrell's memory, join me and smile with a Black Toothed Grin. |

Definately sent a shock through my system. I guess I just realized how vulnerable human beings can be. Perceptions are so far from reality sometimes. I thought of Dimebag as an indestructable metal god.
Definately a sad day for metal. However, his death is not a cause of grievance. Nothing can stop us from enjoying his music. Dimebag may be at a better place now, but his music lives on right here. Here on earth. |

My heart goes out to any victim of this sort. I never was much into hard rock. And never heard the name "Dimebag Darrell". But the passing of any artist (or anyone else for that matter) is a sad loss.
R.I.P But I feel a special loss for the bouncer. I was in security for many years. It takes true courage not to run in that kind situation. But stay and do your duty, a duty that rarely pays more then $10 and hour.

Being a Columbusite, I got to listen to this on the local AM talk radio station the following afternoon. I'm not a big metal fan, but I'm glad to see that unlike on the talk radio, nobody has made the tasteless "This is the 9/11 of the metal world" comment. Tragic? yes. But not to the tune of 3000+ deaths tragic.
