Why not? Almost all acts are in some way about surprises, shocking revelations... think of even the tamest soap opera... the sudden deaths, the car accidents, comas, pregnancies... sudden plot twists drive consumer interest. Considering this was rock and roll, and not a knitting convention, I think a display of violence would be somewhat in tune with the subject matter.
Also keep in mind that there are stupid people in the world, and they LOVE being interviewed.
