Yes, he was a hero. His name was Jeff Thompson, aka Mayhem, and he was a personal friend of mine. I know of few more selfless people in this world. He truly enjoyed helping others and was more likely to do work in return for dinner then for money. He used to tell the guys he worked security for "I'll take a bullet for you fellas". In the end, he did. The world is little bit worse off for his passing.
