I always hate to hear about somebody getting killed for no good reason, but I can't spare any of my limited sympathy on a guy who purposely chose the name "Dimebag." Why do people place such importance on drugged up musicians and actors?

Someone died and you're selfish enough to make a rude comment. Everyone has opinions, not just you, and it doesn't take a genius to realize this thread isn't the place to go offending the recently deceased.
Now, to get back on topic in the light of the tragedy....
I never really knew much of the guy, but I definitely know he had a large following. I remember a kid in a music class I recently took did a final report on Pantera, and more specifically Darrel. He was a really nice guy and was such a loyal fan for really pure reasons. Beyond Darrel, I'll pray for this kid and the other many fans as well cause I'm sure there's many saddened by this.
