So, one of the biggest chunks of spam I'm getting these days are for Rolex watches - replicas of course. There's also a good portion of spam for those fake Tiffany heart bracelets and countless websites that sell fake Fendis, fake Louis Vuittons, fake Guccis and about every other designer label there is.

Do you "fake it" when it comes to designer accessories and clothes. Do you wear fake diamonds and let people believe that they are the real thing, willed to you by your great Aunt Hilda.

Would you ever give a "fake" something as a gift and pass it off as the real thing.

Is it the thoguht that counts, or is it the label?

I bought my wife a man-made star sapphire as a ring. Not quite fake, but not exactly natural either (and there's not much price difference). They are chemically identical, but the lines are straighter in the man-made gem. I told her that it was artificial.

when I was 16 I bought a pair of okleys for 2$ and stole a fake seiko watch from the same peddler.... other than that, I really dont buy that crap.

I'm not concerned with brand names or designers so i dont fake it, and dont care if others fake it or not because those things dont impress me. In fact i think people who actually buy things (especially clothes) for the designer name are saps and wasting their money. Hmm lets see.. should i buy a $10 t-shirt, or that $75 one with some "special" guy's name on it...

I look for quality not name brand. So I inspect things that I expect to have quality parts, manufacturing, etc. on all things and moreso on brand name items.

I don't buy anything that's fake usually because the quality isn't there.

I like to wear clothes that I feel are nice, whether I bought them from the salvation army store or not. I own sweaters I spent $300, but I also wear a sweater I bought for $3. I love fashion, and I love to look good, but I don't think you ALWAYS need to spend money on the expensive one. I almost guarantee if I found a fake Louis Vitton, I'd use it. That is, if it looks nice.

when i buy something with a name it has to be real. even good fakes when i know people couldnt tell..well i can tell and it bothers me...i have clothes that i've paid like $5 for as long as it feels nice and looks hot..i just like to mix together sexy quirky outfits..sometimes i just make and design my clothes myself

I wanted a Rolex really bad one year. I was like 14, and didn't know how much they cost, my sister gave me one for christmas. I was in hog heaven, even though I knew it was fake. I think I've since lost it.

As for now, I go for quality, and value, not really name brands.

In midtown manhattan, you can't swing a fake fendi without hitting a peddlar selling the fake bags. Years and years ago, like late 80s, the LV and Gucci bags were very popular, however you could still get a fake one for about 10 bucks, I never wanted one, they look fake. Now, those fakes are closer to 100 bucks or more.

My current handbag is a small Coach. I bought it at the Coach outlet in Puerto Rico a few years ago, for 1/2 the price. Every so often, I will see the fake bags resembling my bag, and there's no comparison. My bag is 4 or 5 years old, looks better than the "new fakes" the sticking on the fakes is completely off.

I occassionally see fake Rolexes on people sitting near me in restaurants, or on the plane, and they are so easy to spot. I'd much rather spend that money on something of quality, than a fake designer label.

Actually, I'm a bit of an anti-consumer, so I don't care much for brand names. Faking a brand name in that context would be rather hypocritical, so I don't do that either.

Still, I like to buy stuff made with integrity, and if I can find a product made by someone who is not a slave in some third world country, and using manufacturing processess that are not detroying the planet, and going to a company with some level of social responsibility, then I would proudly show that brand name, and I would NEVER fake that.

Yet, so few things in this world are like that, alas...

I can't wait till CVD diamonds come on to the market. I'd much rather buy a "man-made" diamond than a "natural" diamond. It's a trophy in tribute to the enginuity of mankind, and is even more pure than "natural" diamonds. One of those rare cases where the "fake" is better than the original.

I'm with Ustwo on this one. I think that buying namebrand or knockoff just to "be cool", is selling yourself short. Anyone that has half a brain can spot the fake stuff, and probably be left with a not-so-good impression of you. Be real.

I bought a fake Prada bag for my wife once (She was with me when I bought it, so she knew it was fake). It was a pretty good one though, and we did get it in Venice, Italy though. She still uses it from time to time, so I think it was a good purchase.

Depends on what it is. If it costs more because it actually is made better, sure Ill generally buy the real thing. If its just a style issue though, I usually dont care enough to buy it at all.

I actually think the ripoffs are utterly tacky. I mean, who wants a sweatshirt that says G.A.P. It's not like no one can tell the difference. I don't even know why I dislike them so much, because I don't like brand names either.... Plus, I figure that most of the time, you pay for quality as much as brand name. I've got a pair of Nike's that have graced my feet for years and are still as good as new....

I'm simply a very picky person. I look at it like this: I wouldnt want to receive somthing that is a fake, so why give some person somthing that is fake?

You pay for quality for a reason (I'm thinking watches & jewlery atm).

I love my seiko watch, and laugh whenever I see immiations even if I paid 6-8x more.

I have a hard time finding clothes that don't have any labels on it what so ever, fake or not fake. I refuse to advertise a brand name (any name) on what I wear since I receive nothing for the free advertising. I am not a walking billboard. But I could be if I were paid for it.

I don't wear designer labels, so it doesn't really mean anything to me. My biggest concern is getting the best value for my money. If that means it's a fake, so be it. However, I do find that you get what you pay for.

Would I pass a fake off as the real thing? Not a chance.

If you are going through all this trouble to dress yourself in the morning, you should be doing it for yourself, not for someone else. Why would you want to go against your personal tastes and principles just to conform to a certain standard or be something you're not?

Even if nobody notices its fake... you still know - and at the end of the day, you're still fake.

I try to avoid name's on my clothes if at all possible for the same reason I don't write my name on my underwear or take notes on my shirt. It just doesn't make sense, I can see us as a society 50 years from now looking back and laughing at the absurdity of it.

anyway I don't fake name tags. I used to be all into that when I was a cocky punk disillusioned identity confused high school kid. (Wearing name brands) Now I still wear name brands but I don't go over the top and most of my stuff says black label or independant instead of having a polo horse or nautica boat on it.

Anyway more than half the time I look better in my stuff I got on sale than these preppy guys who paid 200+ dollars on a long sleeve shirt and jeans from Abercrombie & Fitch. What kinda fucked up name is that? It's not what clothes you buy that makes you look good it's the way you put it together and the way you carry yourself that makes you look good. I spent the night on my friends couch and we got up in the morning to get cokes down the street. I threw on my lee dungaress, and a long sleeve, white button up shirt. He said "Thats a nice shirt man." In a tone like he was gonna call me some kind of a poseur or something and I said "I got this fuckin shirt at walmart when I was in like 8th grade..it's Dickies for Christ sake." That kinda shut him up. And yes...I looked damn good that day

Hell no! First of all, I think it's pretty easy to spot fakes, and as soon as I do, I lose a lot of respect for the wearer. It's desperate and cheap. Buy what you feel and look good in and be proud of it!

I think that we need to redefine fashion to equate with what *you* think you look good in.

I've bought very expensive clothes and I've bought very inexpensive clothes. The only common thread is that I liked how I looked in it and how it felt on me. Of course price is not completely irrelevant, but it irks me to see people who seem to have in their heads "I won't like anything over x dollars" because they take an "elitist anti-elitist" view.

I know this is going to sound a bit harsh, but I personally regard people who lash out money on designer labels believing them to be of 'quality' are, frankly, stupid. And if you buy them to show you have the spending power, then, yes, you are also stupid.

Buy clothes to look good, to feel comfortable, not to parade a logo. Somehow logos/brands/labels have attracted this cachet which is completely at odds to how good they look. If I see some loser in a FCUK t-shirt, I generally assume he's a dickhead for buying it. He's then got to prove to me that he isn't. And yes, I have bridged the cognitive gap and made my peace with designer label buyers before. I just think it's foolish behaviour.

The tag on the Abercrombie shirt says 100% cotton....at wal mart a similar looking shirts tag says 100% cotton..so wheres this magical degree of quality that differs from the two? Oh thats right Abercrombie shirts are only made from the finest cotton shipped over seas from Kitchatowa and the thread for the blue lines was imported from Egypt. Quality!
