Hey girls, keep it real with BEEF!
That's right! Since PETA keeps making these naughty and wholly depressing ads about the horrors of consuming animal flesh, America's Beef Producers have taken it upon themselves to create a website targeted specifically at a previously untapped, yet potentially crucial demographic: TEENAGE GIRLS! It's true! A daily dose of meat does not only have to be acquired through a simple injection!
Yes siree! Since the girls of today will most likely be the family grocery shopper of tomorrow, let's hook'em while they're young through some glittery, sneaky, self-esteem boosting messages that subtly point to meat as the one true answer! However, perhaps through some lack of research, they seemed to have failed to target goth girls, who need the iron and would enjoy the blood anyway. Kids who prefer to dig on swine can also come here for a taste of the other white meat. Yes... the Internet is truly a beautiful place. Fortunately, jaded, cynical, future Onion writers will be overjoyed to know that the Web can and does redeem itself right here ... don't forget to check out the kid's section!

Well no more hanging out at TFP for me. I have a new mecca.
Just try out the "make a sandwich" game on the Pork Page. You build it high. Eat it. Play again. Build it high. Eat it. Play Again. Build it high. Eat it.....

The beef site and the pork site are unbeleivable. Kind of sheds new light on the Madison Ave. types. Get'em while they're young and impressionable. Pretty smart, and pretty pathetic. Bunch of lawyer wannabe's.
The meat junkie site is hilarious. Wait, you mean it's not a parody? It is for real? These guys are just as bad. I think these strategies come about because we are becoming a more permissive society. The more we are exposed to, the more we are willing to put up with.

I agree that we, as a society, are becoming increasingly detached towards marketing and its "need creation" aspects. The beef and pork sites are two shining examples of this trend.
However, while the beef site is sneakier, catering more to teenage values than actual product (although they do get to that deeper into the site), the pork site uses antropomorphic tactics to impress young minds, much like PETA. To wit, the happy little piggy floating next to the kids on the site's main page. As for the meat junkie site, they seem to be trying to educate the masses in a slightly less patronizing way than you-know-who. They have a touch of humour that I think isn't lost on people, even though it would take more than that to make yours truly stop eating bacon cheeseburgers on a sporadic basis.

This is a big industry we are talking about. Alot of people are employed by them.
If the industry feels that some teen idol/popstar displaying support (and probably ignorance) for PETA sways the opinion of teenage girls, then I feel they should be able to counter. Blckdmnd, I agree with you. We allow ourselves to be saturated with noise from all over. But I think this is a pretty harmless example. |

Those sites are cheesy and terrible! Ugh.
I'm not a PETA person at all, but I do not eat beef or pork or any red meat of any kind... and those stupid ass websites aren't gonna sway me for an instant. Thanks for posting, very informative, Bob.

"that's pretty fucked up, man" is the main thing I thought when i saw that..
I'm not a member of PETA and I'm pretty sure everybody knows my stance on animal rights by now.... but anyhow PETA are just fucking nuts. they remind me of major fundamentalism in Christianity. PETA is right, yer wrong, period. that state of mind will never, ever, have progress unless they plan us to live in a communist society. |
