Ok.... so I had an interesting experience today and thought I'd let you all know.

I have this black belt with the metal spikes on it (from Hot Topic) and I put an Iron Cross belt buckle on it (for those of you who dont know what an iron cross is, Click Here )

So I had this on and I was walking through the mall with some friends and then all of a sudden I hear some voice shout at / around / near me 'you stupid fucking nazi'.

My initial response was just like... ummm que? Where's the fight? Then I turn around to see whats up and theres some middle aged housewife pointing at me saying 'Yeah! You! you fucking nazi'.

So after my initial 'wtf' reaction I decided to actually ask her what she was talking about, I'm a pretty calm guy, so I wasn't just gonna turn around and start throwin punches or somethin .

So I asked her what was up, and she replied in a not-so-nice tone of voice that I was a 'fuckin nazi and I should burn in hell for wearing a swastika.

I then proceeded to 'serve' her with some knowledge (I'm a history major)

So basically we had a back-and-forth about the fact that an iron cross is not a swastika and i explained its origins to her. Then after all that, just to prove to me how closed minded she was, she said I was just some punk kid who didn't know anything. I ended the conversation with a 'have a nice damn ma'am' and then my friends and I walked off to go chuckle about how she got served. :thumbs up:

ughhh.... moral of the story people.... please don't be closed minded pricks that feel the need to spout off about shit you have no clue about.

I'm probably just going to keep typing until I run out of things to babble about and see how many people actually read this. I once ran down a hill, fell down and hurt my elbow; my mom said I would be ok, she kissed it and made it all better. if someone thinks an iron cross is a swastica and then goes off and calls a complete stranger a nazi.....well they deserve to be embarrassed beyond belief.

what i would have done (mind you i'm not afraid to make a point) is have that lady go up to the next 10 people she saw and ask them what a swastica was, literally explain what it looks like. then proceed to embarass her more by telling these people how fucking dumb this stupid bitch is for thinking and doing what she did.

Don't feel alone, a couple of years ago while at a freinds house on a lake in Texas we had the Stars and Stripes, Texas Flag and the Stars and Bars flying and a bunch of punks drove by and started yelling at us that we were fron the Klu Klux Klan. We had our kids and wives out there! But their balls showed when we offered to teach them the proper way of falling down but declined by hauling ass. Just ignorance and a knee jerk reaction combination

Now, I don't know alot of the history of the Iron Cross myself, but you don't hear me calling random people Nazis because they wear one, either. That housewife needs to tone it down a lil'.

Wow. I wonder how she would react if she knew that the swastika was originally a symbol of good luck. From what I understand, before the 1930's it was featured on American greeting cards and even used as a flag with the Boy Scouts.

Amusingly enough, that woman's use of unfounded fear tactics is extremely similar to a typical fascist propoganda movement. She relied on buzzwords and targeted a readily visible group of people (people with Iron Crosses and spiked collars tend to stand out).

Gotta love stupid people.

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking he should have done. What an idiot - stupid people make me mad.

I hope she goes home, looks up swastika on the internet, and is thoroughly embarassed of herself.

Of course, that would probably require her to be open to the idea she was wrong, which I doubt she was.

I believe that the 'good luck' swastika was reversed, hitler reversed the original to denote the nazi-fascist government he had created.

I bet she's the kind that thinks all Germans Nazi's too. I met someone in New York City once that seriously thought German Jew was a Nazi.

It's kinda funny though that the Swastika is now taboo. If you go to any Civil War Battlefield, you'll see a ton of them on any of the flags from units that fought there. I wonder how many people are convinced that either the North or South was helped by the Nazis, depending on where they're from.

Nah, Good Luck Swastikas went both ways. There is an amazingly detailed article on Wikipedia on the history of the symbol.

Most Rudyard Kipling's books used to be printed with a swastika on the spine. That was pre-1930's, of course. I've got a big shelf full of old books of his from the 1910's, all with the swastika.
