Ever aim with intent to kill?

Have you ever pointed a loaded weapon at another person, in order to influence them in some way? For example, a police officer might pull his weapon to influence the outcome of an unknown situation, or a store clerk could cause a person attempting robbery to change actions.

I would suggest you not give details about circumstances that would be considered criminal.

I'm posting this here because I want a broad sample, not just the gun club's response. This is not a thread discussing how much you hate guns. Start your own thread if you have something to say about that. I'll delete anti-weapon comments without notice.

I have not, but would if I was forced to. I almost had to once though.

I lived in Los Vegas for awhile. On night I woke up and there was someone in the patio area outside my bedroom. Got up, got my gun and headed towards the door. Before I could get there they left. Don't know if they were playing hide and seek with their friends or heard me inside.

As I see it, if you're not a police officer, then there's one and only one situation where you should be aiming a gun at someone. That's when you INTEND to kill them. Otherwise why in the world would you be pointing a potentially deadly weapon at somebody?

I've never aimed a gun at anyone, and I hope I never have to, but I intend for the person on the other end to be dead if I do.

I have not needed to but would without hesitation to protect my family or own self.

I never point a weapon at a person in any other situation. Not even in jest. There are times when you just don't know that the gun is loaded. For example when I worked in gun sales. We had teenage boys who thought it was a cool prank to come into the shop and sneak bullets into the guns. We would periodically check all our weapons on the shelf for ammo and on occasion found some. You just never know.

On the other hand I have been threatened with a gun. It was a 22 rifle in the neighbor boys hands. Nothing came of it thankfully.

I have pointed not one but two loaded guns at someone with the intent to kill.

It was over drug money.

He put the gun to my forehead... I put one to his... he spat in my face... I put another to his forehead. He pissed himself and ran. I picked up his gun, got back in my car and had a started my heart again.

I haven't had to do anything of the sort, but I'd certainly protect my life if it were in danger.

As a child I was shot at by a 15 year old who stole his father's gun.

I found him later that summer unarmed, and attacked him with a two-by-four till he stopped trying to get up. I was only 13 at the time, and later that year he was gunned down by two high school kids who drove up on him, and shot him and his friend down with shotguns.

I know how to use guns, and love going to the firing range with friends I trust, but I personally choose not to own a gun. I respect people's right to own them, but if it comes down to hurting someone else surprise and blunt objects work for me. I hope it never ever comes down to that again.

I have a conceal and carry permit. I own a Bersa 380 hand gun and I carry it nearly always. I am well trained in it's use and I am an excellent shot. I carry it for ONE purpose, self defense.

I am glad to say I have never needed to use it or even aim it at another human being. God forbid I ever have to. But should I find myself in a situation where it is my life or theirs, I will do what is necessary to protect myself.

No, and God willing, I will never have to.

The closest I've come is when some guy screaming outside woke me out of a deep sleep. Considering that I didn't know what was going on and that a visual deterent is sometimes better than pointing a gun at somebody, I loaded my AR15 and took it outside, (pointed at the ground) and demanded to know what the f*** was going on.

Anyway, this kid had been beating on his (so he said) car hood and screaming for some reason (maybe he had broken up with his girl or something, but who knows?)

At the sight of an AR15 (again, not pointed at him), he politely appologized for waking the complex up and said it wouldn't happen again.

I went back inside and took about 30 minutes to let my heart rate return to normal before I could think of sleep again.

I was living in a not-so-nice area of St. Louis. I was working at the Player's Island Casino and had silly work hours. I was home and wide awake at 2:30 am when the car alarm for my VERY nice 84 Monte Carlo SS began to scream. It was a very windy night so i went and looked out the window of my shotgun apartment, and noticed nothing wrong, so i silenced the alarm and went back to playing Red Alert on my puter. Two minutes later it went off again, i looked and saw nothing at first so i silenced the alarm again, that's when i saw the guy in my car wrestling with the steering column.

At that point in my life...I owned 3 things of value.

1. My Monte Carlo SS
2. My stainless steel .22rifle
3. My computer

I also was recently separated from my wife and child....might have had just a BIT of frustration built up....anyways, when I saw this guy in my car, instead of re-engaging the car alarm and calmly calling 911...i bolted for the closet and fetched my gun. I jumped out on the front porch with my heart pounding soaked with the adrenelin shot of a lifetime and yelled "HEY MOTHERF***ER" took aim through my scope right at his head and pulled off a round.....right at the moment i shot, he got the car started and his head moved back. He took off. I got in the street and popped off 3 more rounds at my car speeding away...

Cops came, were quite sympathetic to my story....etc....lots more interesting stuff in this story, but this is the guts of it. The car ended up smashed up into a concrete wall in downtown St. Louis about 5miles from my apt, and the cops were teasing my about my bad shooting skills....

I lost two of my 3 prized possessions that night, my car and my rifle (which i did get back a few months later)

While in the Navy. I'm Master o' Arms standing mid watch on my ship and we're tied up at NWS Seal Beach. Needless to say not much is going on when we spot a small boat coming toward us. Can you say WTF? Halt ! US NAVY WARSHIP! DO NOT APPROACH!
Pull my side arm (.45) and line up on the drunk and his buddy who thought it would be a good hoot to buzz a Cruiser. He seems to realize that maybe this wasn't such a good when he finally sees me with my gun drawn and turns around.

If I had to I would of shot him and his buddy without hesitation.
If I ever have to pull a gun in the future I will and use if needed.

I have aimed a M-16 asault rifle at someone with full intent to fire. In 1983 I was in the Air Force responding to an IZ/OZ alarm on a Minuteman III missle silo. OZ alarms mean that someone, or something, usually an antelope, or a jackrabbit, has breached the Outer Zone. Hardly worth a raised eyebrow, really. IZ/OZ alarms mean that someone has breached the Outer Zone, and is attempting to gain access to the silo via the hatch (Inner Zone). Since antelopes and jackrabbits rarely, if ever, attempt to turn combination locks, these alarms are usually taken a bit more seriously. When we arrived, we were greeted by a group of college kids partying inside the perimeter. When challenged, one of the more macho of the kids thought he'd play it up for the girls, and made a move for our lieutenant's side arm. This action, on his part, brought the attention of 6 M-16s, and 2 M-60 machine guns to bear. There is no sound quite like the simultaneous chambering of rounds in so many weapons. The kid literally shit and pissed himself. And, as I recall, spent three days in federal custody, courtesy of your United States Air Force, and the FBI.

Although I've never had a need to use, or threaten the use of, a gun on an individual, I realize that in the situation, I'd have to do what needed done to protect myself or loved ones.

I was taught from a young age, that you don't pull a gun just to intimidate someone. The rule I've been taught, is that you should ONLY brandish your weapon if you intend to use it in a deadly fashion. It's neither safe nor realistic to use a firearm with the sole thought that you'll "blow off their trigger finger" (or administer a similar non-lethal injury). It is also ridiculous to brandish a weapon if you don't feel that there is an actual need to do serious and permanent bodily harm to an individual. Often, bringing out a gun will escalate a situation that could possibly be otherwise resolved to a point where the gun is the ONLY option.

That being said, I HAVE however, had a (supposedly) unloaded handgun leveled at my head. Although I trusted the person holding the weapon not to attempt anything (they were/are young and stupid and were attempting to frighten me), I wasn't confident in their certainty as to the possible presence of live ammunition.
