The robins are extra-stupid this year

The robins have started showing up in Connecticut a couple of weeks ago. This year, for the first time, I've seen them attacking their own reflections in windows, both at my home and at the office.

A web search told me "Some highly territorial birds will attack windows, car external driving mirrors, hub-caps and other reflective surfaces. They can see their own reflection on the surface, and thinking it is an intruding male, will try to attack it to defend its territory", and robins are one of those birds. And, there's nothing you can do but cover up the windows.

In my case, the windows are huge, and there's no way to cover them up. I can't do anything about it. I wish I could; they seem really frustrated and determined.

Anyone else having robin problems?

city living... few robins, but I have seen them in the park.

since I live on the 17th floor, I don't see them on my floors.

I remember living at my parents house, there'd be a robin fly into the window at least once a year. They'd hit them at high speed too, making a huge thumping noise which usually resulted in a broken neck, not always though. I remember seeing one hit the window then fall to the deck. I wathced as it stumbled around for a second, gave it's head a shake, take a second and then took off again.

When I was a kid this one stupid ass cardinal would constantly smash himself into our windows. For years. It was like our house came with a metronome.

you could... electrify the window. The robin will soon know who's boss.

Don't clean your windows. Or you could coat them in mud.

Get a cat.

Bluebirds used to do kamikaze missions on our cats, though. They would divebomb them from the branches so if you have those types of birds, it may not be the best idea to get a cat. Get a lion, then.

You could open the window, too. That would show them.

For the past 3 years or so we have had birds tapping on the sliding glass door that goes to our deck. It has already started again this year, i find it kind of funny.

We had one that would show up and fly at our front window constantly from 7 am to about 1 pm. He showed up at that time for 4 days in a row. I took a few pics...

We had a robin that did the same thing at our house. It'd do it constantly for about a week or two.. then go away. Always in the spring. The cats (which were sitting on the couch on the other side of the window) were loving it.

It did this for multiple years.. probably still does (I don't live there anymore, so I don't know).

Am I the only one that thinks watching a stupid ass bird fly into a window over and over would be a riot to see?

For like a week we'd have class at Dawes Arboretum when I was in grade school.

The building we were taught in (DARE, protect mother earth hippy nonsense, etc.) was mostly brick besides a large portion that was a window of sorts. It was a mirror on the outside, but on the other you could see out of it.

So we were in there letting the DARE officer do his thing. I was making a paper airplane or drawing pictures of ninjas stabbing people in the head or something. Anyways, I got bored and started looking out the window.

I saw a bird in the distance flying towards the building. "Fly fly, I'm a bird." I imagine he was thinking. He closed the distance and decided to swoop down under what must have looked like a tunnel to him. But to everyone else it was a window.

The bird fatally slammed into the window. Everyone gasped, except the kid in the back who witnessed the whole thing...

He laughed himself into a fucking coma.

Keep your windows closed. A sparrow got in my room once and raised hell. He got in here and just started TEARING ASS all over the place.

I was on my computer when he came in. I looked over at him, he looked at me, and I was like "Fuck shit fuck!@!!" which he must have taken offense to. Because he flipped out and attacked me until I opened the window and he flew out.

I wish there was a martial-art against birds. Flailing like a sissy doesn't work.

Lizards eat insects. I would choose lizards over insects any day.
