I just checked out freevibe.com
And wow, I can't believe the utter bullshit spewed on that site.
It's as Bad for Your Health -- or Worse, in Some Ways -- as Tobacco You might be surprised to learn that marijuana contains the same cancer-causing chemicals as tobacco, and at higher concentrations. Long-term use increases the chances of tissue damage and lung cancer, and also causes changes in the brain similar to those caused by long-term use of cocaine and heroin. So its ok for one substance to fuck our lungs up but not another? Oh you forgot to mention how much an average cigarette smoker smokes a day and how much an average pot smoker smokes a day. I don't know the answer myself, I'd be very interested in knowing Your Future Can Go Up in Smoke Several studies have linked marijuana use with poor school performance. It's harder to concentrate and retain information when you've been using pot, and every day of school is important to teens in their peak learning years. It should be no surprise that the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse found teens with a "D" average or below more than four times as likely to have used marijuana in the last year than those with an "A" average. You're more likely to drop out -- or get kicked out -- of school, or out of sports or other activities if you smoke marijuana. Well first of all, the people who advocate to decriminalize/legalize pot arent' advocating high school use. Secondly I strongly believe these people with poor grades would have done poorly with or without pot. Drugs are an easy excuse for kids doing poorly in school, maybe you should instead look into why so many high school kids start smoking pot in the first place. That being said, I think much more deeply into things when I'm high, and lets not forget some of our favorite songs were written under the influence of various drugs. It's Unsafe The likelihood of a car crash is increased by some of the immediate effects of smoking pot-longer reaction time, poor physical coordination, and impaired concentration. Marijuana also makes you more likely to do something stupid you might regret. Pot-smoking has been linked with risky sexual behaviors that increase the likelihood of sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies. Hmmmmmmm....sounds similar to another drug I've heard of.....what is that drug anyways......oh thats right, the very legal substance alcahol. I can garauntee each and everyone reading this post that drinking is far more likely to get you in a car accident or make you fuck anything in site. It Can Make You Look Like a Gritball We're all anxious enough about how we look without having to worry about the stained fingertips and teeth, stinking breath, and bloodshot eyes that come with smoking pot. People who smoke dope can look a little -- well, skeazy. They might lose interest in their appearance. They can also get the munchies when they're high -- and it's not exactly health food they binge on. They don't call that tire-shaped ring of flab around the middle of a pothead the "stoner's spare" for nothing. You're getting desperate freevibe. Stoners may not care about appearance as much as others (which I think is a good thing) but its not like we look like a bunch of dirty hippies. I'm willing to bet most couldn't pick out if a person smokes pot or not in most cases. Sure our eyes get red, if that bugs someone out so much they can get visine. And as for munchies, thats not a legitimate argument in the fattest country in the world, I'm sorry. You Might Lose the Good Friends You Have -- and Make Some Bad Ones Marijuana use by teens -- like the use of many other drugs -- can make it harder to keep good relationships with your friends and family. Marijuana users can become loners or hang out with people who may not be a good influence, which means that if you already have good friends and a supportive family, you can grow apart from them or lose their trust. I can only talk of my experiences on this situation. I started smoking because some of my good friends started and liked it, that got me curious. And over time more and more of my friends started smoking pot. By the end of high school most of the senior class smoked pot. I'm talking about like 80% of the kids in our class did it. The only influence pot had on my friends was it introduced me to some new people who I would never be friends with otherwise. If somone I like choses not to smoke thats their decision and I'll respect that. However if somone decides not to be my friend because of a choice I have made in my life to smoke weed, then that person isn't really my friend in the first place. It Can Make You Feel Worse, Not Better Smoking dope can lead to anxiety, panic attacks, depression, and paranoia -- and those problems don't improve over time. And don't you know someone who can't do anything without getting high? That's because they're addicted. Sixty percent of teenagers in drug treatment programs are there because of marijuana. Pot isn't for everyone. If you don't like the feeling you get don't smoke it, its that simple. I get paranoid sometimes, but thats because of potential cops. Sixty percent of teenagers are in drug treatment programs not because of pot but because of the ignorance people have with pot. It'll Get You Into Trouble According to the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse, kids who frequently use marijuana are almost four times as likely to commit a violent act -- against either people or property -- than those who don't. They're five times as likely to steal. So smoking marijuana can get you in trouble with the law and result in later problems like not being able to get a scholarship or a job. BULLLLLLLLLLLSHIIIIIIIT. Drugs are an easy excuse for criminal activity, they are also a false excuse. If you honestly think someone who is high on pot is more likely to be violent then either you've never tried it or your a nutcase to begin with. /sarcasm Oh and of coarse drinking doesn't make you more violent in the least bit. /sarcasm off It Channels Money to Some Very Bad People The people who profit from the $400 billion global drug business -- and yes, marijuana is a big part of this business -- are creep factor nine. They're criminals. If you're smoking pot, you could be the end-user of a product that may have been sold to help fund these people. Gee golly I wonder what a good solution to this problem is. It couldn't be to legalize pot could it. Oh wait thats a perfect solution. I'm sorry but the DEA is a bunch of god damned retards if they dont' see that. BTW I'm channeling money to a few friends who grow their own, so I'm no criminal. I'm sorry, after reading the propaganda on that site I got mad and just felt i needed to post this.

Funny how we all have different beliefs... I think your pro drug propaganda is as bigger a bunch of BS than what you think that site is. *shrug*
I could go on and on about the people that I've known, and people I work with and what they do with their lives and how they abuse their bodies, family, and friends, but I won't bore you with those facts because they'll just be falling on deaf ears. |

I'm more open minded then you might think. But you are right whatever you say probably won't change my feelings on this issue. I firmly believe people with messed up lives that also happen to smoke pot use pot as an excuse for their actions. I would also like to know what part of my post you find to be BS.
But the core of this issue is the fact that we put all these people in jails across the country, for what, smoking a natural plant. Even if pot truely did fuck us up, its our choice to fuck our body up, and as long as we don't infringe on others rights we should have every right to do what we want.

Personally I don't find pot all that spectacular, then again, as long as somebody who is on pot does not harm me or any other individual, why should I care ?
However, cannabis is still an illegal substance, if you want to use it, own up to the consequences if you get busted... or move to Holland .

Pot is probably tamer than cigarettes and alcohol as far as health is concerned but that isn't a reason to make it legal...why not follow the logic in the other direction and try and get people to stop smoking/drinking?

In my opinion all drugs should be legal, people have the right to do whatever they want to themselves - taking heroin for example can be very bad for someone's health, but if they want to harm themselves to get intoxicated - thats their own choice. Legalising drugs would take so much of the violence and organised crime out of the distribution of them. Its time to admit defeat in the war on drugs, drugs won. And alcohol and tobaco are bigger killers than any illicit drug.

Yeah until they ban alcohol they will never have a legit fight against pot. Pot can be smoked as is from the earth, alcohol has to be processed from normal things first. It's more natural than alcohol but we're allowed to drink. The only reason I don't smoke pot is it's illegal, and my family can't afford to bail me out of jail and I don't need a record keeping me from getting jobs. Pot has more medicinal effects than alcohol too. It's not the drug it's the person using them. Some ppl can't use Tylenol or plain aspirin so wahtever about pot. I smoked pot as a teen because my life sucked and I felt good, better than life was feeling at the time. This society has so many more problems to tackle, of which drugs are a side effect.

When discussing pot use why does the issue of pot being all natural come up? I do not understand the connection between natural and being safe to consume. There are thousands of plants that are all natural but are extremely poisonous to humans. Or what about natural hallucinogenic plants that are used throughout the world. Should all these plants be legal to consume also? I really don’t care if people smoke pot or not, but if you are going to argue for its use come up with a better reason than pot is all natural.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Weed brings people together. Your having a fight with someone, smoke some weed toegther and all will be forgiven, or maybe a fight is in order. But the point is, "Hey, you blaze?" "Hell yeah I blaze." So many friendships have been started on these two simple sentances alone. And shit, don't give me this bad influence crap. If the kid didn't want to do it, then he wouldn't have done it. It's time that kids start taking responsibility for their own actions. When me and my boy got arrested for possession, my pops tried to blame that shit on him. Fuck that, it was my fault we got caught. The_Wall, lemme just say we're on the same fuckin page. If you ever need to speak out on this lemme just say you got my support. Last edited by twilightfoix; 02-29-2004 at 04:20 PM.. |

I'm glad most of you guys agree with me (or so it seems). If everyone though like us we might finally see some change in drug laws in this country. I'm for legalisation of all drugs personally, but pot is the most important

People think before buying guns. People think before buying drugs. Some people think they're powerful and all rightous when using guns. Some people think without consequences when using drugs. Ain't stupid bud, just simple math equation. I think the law banning people from using pot is plain stupid. There's alot of facts and myth that are not being revealed to the public about smoking pots. Alot of information about smoking cigerates are revealed to the public, it causes lung cancer among other diseases and yet it isn't banned? So, how stupid is that?

i agree w/ sixate on this, making arguments for pot by saying it does the same "bad" things that other drugs doesnt change the fact that it does "bad things"... we should be trying to get rid and limit harmful substances, instead of saying "since this bad thing is ok, the other should be too"
And yes, maybe if guns werent so easy to get, lazy bastards wont try to kill people as easily... I mean, killing a person w/ a knife must bo SO much harder than w/ a gun...

Although this subject has been dealt with many times, I am always particularly proud of the ones that start for the right reasons- information, in the form of an article, is presented from a source, dissected, and discussed.

Also, i've never heard of a "stoner's spare", and I don't know one stoner who has such a thing... the people i've known or seen with extra girth have had that since WELL before starting to smoke- sounds like more bullshit propaganda to me. A fine thread, The_wall, thank you very much. Also- let's make sure we're not "snapping back" at the anti-pot/drug members. Their opinions, while possibly different, are still theirs to have, and ours to respect. Thanks |
