elaphe 05-03-2003 06:40 PM

My initials are JPK, but I use my second given name over the first. You see, I am a product of a mixed marriage, my mother is Japanese and my father is Irish Canadian. In homage to both my cultural heratiges, I was given a Japanese name and an Irish name. Unfortunately, one of my names is mispronouned so often (it was driving me CRAZY!), that I use the other as default.

Maveric 05-03-2003 08:12 PM

are you ready for this?

I was born jason micheal mace.

My parents were hippies and thought since Jason meant healer it would be a cool, unique name. joke's on me however because the year I was Born, Jason was the Most commonly chosen name in America. I remember growing up and going to school, there were always 5-6 Jasons in each of my classes. It was so bad that the teachers just called us by our last names. My ethnicity is mostly French, European, Czechoslovakian, and some Native American... I’m a mutt. Growing up, I lived under the sun and was so dark that a lot of people thought I was Mexican. I liked my last name. I actually preferred for people to call me by my last name. I believe we were named after the spice or perhaps the medieval weapon. My hippie parents divorced while I was still young and never saw much of my dad. My mom remarried and my Stepfather raised me as his own.

I’m not gonna go into much detail about this part as I am still pretty sensitive about it.

About the time I was in J.R High School I was adopted by my stepfather and my name changed to

jason wayne raper.

Raper? WTF? Who in the fuck came up with that name? As I understand it, My stepfather’s decendants were from Germany and were “Rope Makers” and were known as “Ropers” but when they immigrated to America the name got mistranslated. Still, fuckin’ “Raper”, can ya believe it. I hated that fuckin’ name, still do. It’s brought me a lot of grief and has put me in a lot of uncomfortable situations….

My initials are TDR. The T is Thomas (but I use Tom). The D is Dylan.

Phaenx 05-03-2003 10:21 PM

Dave.

humperdinck 05-04-2003 06:22 AM

My parents thought it would be a good idea to give me the same first and middle name as my father without a junior or II to differentiate us.

kreskin 05-04-2003 03:27 PM

My real name is Erik (with a k dammit, not a c)

But most of my firends actually call me Kreskin, after I was given the name by my boss for being a smart ass. Kinda stuck after that.

Fallon 05-04-2003 04:06 PM

First name is Brandon

Guy Loren Smith 05-04-2003 04:25 PM

I'll just let you guess. And don't cheat by looking three inches to the left.

raeanna74 05-04-2003 04:42 PM

My name is Heather Gay. Not gaylin but just plain Gay. My parents are anti alternate lifestyle but would you believe it I ended up bi. He he what if they only knew.

copenhagen 05-07-2003 10:00 PM

Bradley Taylor, and surprisingly I never caught any shit for sharing a name with a TV character on home improvement.

Sion 05-07-2003 11:07 PM

hmm, funny, I was talking with someone at work today about names. I commented that if my name was Richard, I would NEVER go by the name of Dick. And yet people do it every day. Why? A Richard can be Rich, Ritchie, Rick, Rickie, but WHY DICK? Who in his right mind would want to be known as Dick?

Meanwhile, my given name is Shaun. There is a connection between it and my TFP name. Can you figure it out? (No fair if you remember me telling the story on the last incarnation of this board).

christophagust 05-07-2003 11:41 PM

Chris is my first name [people who dont know me call me christopher all the time], as an isnight into my nickname I used to use it for civilization II. I liked the intentional misspelling of august into agust cause it made my name notable.

rockogre 05-08-2003 08:04 AM

Another Michael. My mom said she named me after the Archangel.

Boy, talk about being misnamed. The Archangel probably hides his head a lot if I get mentioned.

My initials are MCC and a lot of my graphics and stuff on the net go by MC2, (MC Squared). I tried for the domain mc2.com but was too late.

And I prefer Michael, not Mike, but I try not to be stuffy about it.

warrrreagl 05-08-2003 08:09 AM

My first name is Thomas. No one calls me that, and I only use it to sign important-looking stuff. My family calls me Tommy, and the rest of the free world calls me Tom. My wife never even calls me by my name....

Bob Biter 05-08-2003 09:11 AM

My first name is Jean-François, but I'm called either J-F, Jeff or a variation of my family name, which happens to be a common English first/last name. I'm of French/Irish/Native American descent.

pseudopsycho 05-08-2003 09:35 AM

initials here are DJC but for now I shall remain known as pseudopsycho

holtmate 05-08-2003 09:36 AM

I'm Tom! The family is allowed to call me Tommy, but that's only because my dad's name is Tom, too. And no, I'm not junior, either - different middle names.
My initials, TEH always get corrected by that damn spell check! Curse you Bill Gates!!!

ariekitten 05-09-2003 01:31 PM

440sixpack 05-13-2003 07:20 PM

Hmm, well my real last name is Romeo, as in "Hey Romeo, where's Juliet?"

I'll probably slip and give my first name at some point, I tend not to be too paranoid about such things. Then again, with the kind of stuff one might be involved with on this board, it might be a good idea to be a little more circumspect. Hell I'm probably already screwed, I use this tag on a couple other boards, that I think I have profiles with my full name on 'em...

vermin 05-13-2003 08:04 PM

I've got one of those serial killer sounding names with Lee in the middle and a two syllable last name.

jmf1234 05-13-2003 08:20 PM

Joshua Micheal Fagen (hence JMF)

teph 05-13-2003 09:52 PM

Charles IV

I like it; I don't go by The Fourth much, but I'm the only one I've ever met. Everyone always asks if I'm going to continue this tradition when I have a kid. How the hell am I supposed to know? First, I have to find a wife, THEN I have to have a son, and then she has to consent. Whew. Still, it'd be nice to do.

Anyway, I got all the Charles nicknames growing up: Chuck, Charlie, Chaz, The C-Man (which, when said quickly, sounds an awful lot like Semen), and Quad. I answer to pretty much anything nowadays, though . . .

Slims 05-13-2003 09:54 PM

Slims, just Slims.

XenuHubbard 05-14-2003 12:19 AM

My name's Robert. I'm fine with that. I'm not planning to change anything.

My brother, on the other hand, is trying to get Optimus Prime legalized as his middle name.

Ratman 05-14-2003 05:43 AM

It looks like Throatwarbler Mangrove, but it's pronounced "Smithhampton Luxuryyacht".

Kudos if you get the reference.

foohzy 05-14-2003 01:16 PM

My name's Ken. I like it just fine, but my last name sucks. I wish it was something like Hudsucker, cuz that's fun, and the movie was okay.

jwoody 05-15-2003 07:36 AM

My name has been changed to protect the innocent.

ganon 05-15-2003 12:30 PM

my first name sounds like a hairlip dog barking. I changed my last name 15 yrs ago cause I wanted something easier to spell, and didn't want my kids to grow up with the hassle of it. Plus, my dad was just a sperm donor, so I had no loyalty to it.

Xapphire 05-15-2003 12:49 PM

EDJ

I really disliked my name growing up, but it's okay now I guess. Just really tough to have an "E" name when all your cousins did too...

Elizabeth!
Elaine!
Erin!
and then they'd finally get to me...
but I'm not telling, it's elsewhere if you really must know.

Interesting because I go by Greg and have the middle initial W. My sisters got to name me, so they used the names of their favorite actors, so...

Gregory -> Gregory Peck
William -> William Holden

Now, Greg700 do we share the middle name too?

As an aside, with the initials GW does anyone want to guess where G_Whiz (or GeeWhiz) came from?

zer010gic 06-27-2003 07:07 AM

I will give my initials CAL I have really thought about changing my first name or going by my middle name I just cant decide

absorbentishe 06-27-2003 07:17 AM

Larry is what I go by, unless I'm in trouble then I hear Lawrence.

I ususally answer to anything though. I had a hs teacher call me Phil out of the blue, and he called me that the whole year.

God of Thunder 06-27-2003 07:42 AM

Jeff here, but parents didn't know how to spell full name, co it came out Jefferey.

Doesn't bother me, makes me unique. I only hear the full name when I'm in trouble.

The last name is a big issue though. It's french and hard to spell and pronounce. NOBODY ever gets it right, even after I tell them how to pronounce it.

The only people to ever pronounce it right the first time were my French teacher in HS (go figure) and a hotel clerk in Canada (again, big shock).

The best part about it is I can tell when a telemarketer is on the phone.

Telemarketer - "Hi Mr. uhh, uummm (bad attempt at pronouncing name).

Me - "Sorry, no one here by that name." click

Jim Kata 06-27-2003 10:06 AM

My real name is..... just guess by my screen name.

Jim right?

Wrong. I chose Jim Kata in omage (spelling) to the shitty late night movie of my youth "GYMKATA" anyways....

I'm another Rock here. Well.....that's what some people call me at least. my initials are RUB as in RUB one out...or RUBbin one off.

Some people call me "Patches" because of my two toned cock.

Haha, I love/hate that movie.

Anyways, I'm another Chris. My parents chose both my and my brother's names (Dana) so that they wouldn't have to think of two different names depending on what gender we turned out to be, lazy, lazy lazy.

Nah, my name's Anders Kraneled, i have a middle name but i dislike it so i wont tell any of you :) (Oh to hell with it, its Folkmar).

AFK is my initials, and they are far by the truth (In a geeky kind of way, AFK is also short for 'Away From the Keyboard')

VirFighter 06-27-2003 10:01 PM

My name is Zach or Zachary if its family, I'm in trouble with my mother, or if I just want to sound a little more distinguished.

I like my name for the most part, I hate when people mispell it or think it is "Jack" instead. I really like my middle name, Gray, though and I plan to pass it on when I have a son.

YourNeverThere 06-27-2003 10:04 PM

Didn't care for my middle name much but once I got a little older, I'm glad to have been named after my uncle ;-)

boredjerk 06-28-2003 11:16 AM

My name is penis slang. In the phone book backwards with a comma it is quite ridiculous.

Vyk 06-28-2003 07:09 PM

Joshua which is far too common a name for my taste. Though, I actually sign off on emails and such with "Joshie"... guess it's just more personable.

I was almost named after the Native American leader Sequoia from which the trees get their name. I'm part Chickasaw so my mother thought it'd be appropriate. My father thought I'd be taunted for it so vetoed it. Makes me wonder what life would have been like with that as my name.

I guess my name would have been cool back in the 40's or 50's, but it isn't really very common now. Especially for males.

MikeyChalupa 06-30-2003 09:35 PM

Michael. I go by Mike or, of course, Mikey.

My wife called me Mikey while we were dating, and that's what her family calls me to this day. Oddly enough, we have a 2 year old son who shares my name, and they call HIM Michael.

I'm fairly pleased with my name, and don't have too many problems (though my boss had issues the first time he saw my name, saying "EYE-an" *twitch*)

crow_daw 07-30-2003 04:36 PM

My first name is Erik, but that's also my father's name so I went by Joe just to ease the confusion. Then they got divorced and now my step-father is name Joe. Can you feel the irony?

My father actually wanted to name me Francis Patrick Allowishus <last name>, which is kinda cool.

I am sure I spelled Allowishus wrong.

First name is Brian. It's a run of the mill name, and it doesn't bother me. My last name, however, is impossible to spell and pronounce. At least I know when it's telemarketers on the phone.

I feel I know you all well enough to continue with my voodoo practices, now...

Anyhoo, my first name is Irish, as am I (who woulda thunk it?): Quinn

My middle name is Passamaquoddy and means "Red Fox," but unless you're up on that language, you won't know it. My tribe is the most prevalent in Maine. Wheee! I'm thinking about opening a casino...

Last name: Maynard. I go by it a lot, so I figure I should give it out.

Nickname(s): Quinn Diesel (like Vin Diesel, only smarter), Q-Dubb, and Dingo.

Rob. I like the name except that most everyone who sees Robert automatically assumes Bob. I know a guy named Robert who was so bothered by that he legally changed his name to just Robb (two 'b's, not a typo). He was a pretty wierd guy though.

the fat man thats kinda harsh. You know thats pretty easy to fix if you really want to put in the time, and money. Just start with exersizing. Then if you can keep up the exersize for 3 months change you eating habits. There are also diet pills out there that work, but they're expensive and can be addictive.
