To add to what Ganguro said, horse meat is popular in some European countries.
So it is totally dependent on culture. While I won't be heading to the local pound for a pound of Rover, if I were traveling overseas I might try it.

And they would giggle, knowing you just chowed down on Spot. *shudder*

Oh, wait, you mean the four legged variety! No, haven't tried that yet. Don't think I will, at least, not knowingly. Edited: Removed eatin'/replaced with ate. Didn't want you all to think I wasn't edumacated.

We were actually having a local problem with some Asians (I think Hmong as that is the majority here) stealing dogs around the neighborhoods to eat. People were loosing dogs constantly. That was a few years back. Go ahead and eat the kind of meat you want to but DO not eat MY pet.

Here in Korea, there is the (in)famous dog soup, which I haven't tried and don't think I want to. A lot of older male Koreans will eat it because it is supposed to make you strong and better in the sack.
There is a specific breed of dog (couldn't tell you which) that is bred for consumption -- they are farmed the way Americans farm cows. They'd never cook a little poodle or something like that -- lots of people like to keep poodles and such as pets. There's also just not enough meat on most dogs to make it worthwhile... Most of my ESL students are not fond of the whole dog-eating thing, but some like it.

As long is it isnt the dog youve had from a pup, and love, and cudle with....who cares? Meat is meat! My aunt had a cow that was more of a pet....It died...We didnt eat it.
There is a differance between munching on a pet and a food animal. But nothing says they cant be the same species. |

I don't see pigs as adorable at all. The duck isn't all that great looking either. The baby lamb is kinda cute though.
I could never eat a dog. I would throw up if I ever found out after the fact. I just love 'em too much. I suppose I've just grown too attached to my culture.
