Lasic eye surgery
I wanted to start this to find out how many of you have had Lasic eye surgery, what the results were, and whether you would do it again.
I'll start. My wife and I both had it done in November of 2000. I was about 20:90 with an astigmatism before the surgery. I have been a consistent 20:10 since the surgery. I don't have night-blindness or dry eyes like some have reported. I paid $699/eye on a special deal with a doctor in Dallas. I would absolutely do it again and regard it as one of the better things I have ever done for myself. My wife had it done the week after I had mine. She had about the same vision I did beforehand and ended up with 20:20 vision afterwards. She sometimes has a little trouble seeing at night, and she had to have some special plugs put in her tear ducts to help with a dry eye problem. She likes the results but sometimes isn't sure she would do it again if she could due to some of the problems. |

i'm interested to read about it, i'm too afraid to do elective surgery for little gain. i have bad vision without my glasses or contacts, but i'm too afraid of a bad turn out making it worse.

Had mine done around two years ago. I can remember because my Mom didn't want me to have it done because she was afraid of a terrorist attack (at the lasik eye surgery place? WTF?)
Mine was done by the same doctor that did my Dad. Plus the doctor was recommended by my eye doctor, who I've know since I was 6. Because of this, I wasn't too concerned about the trustworthyness of the doctor or if I was going to come out blinded. Surgery went great and I had very little trouble in recovery. I was nearly blind without my glasses and now see 20/20 in my left and 20/10 in my right. Couldn't be any happier with how it all turned out. Paid quite a bit, but that also went towards pre-surgery appointments for tests and a years worth of post surgery check-ups. worth every dime I spent. If anyone has any other questions about it, feel free to PM me.

I am going in on Oct 6th to get my eyes done.
I am so tired of glasses. So it is time. There are a couple places in town that do the procedure. I went with the company that has been around the longest and has a solid reputation. I just didn't feel comfortable going with a company who advertised by telling me how cheap they can fix my eyes for. I don't want inexpensive I want quality. |

Inexpensive doesn't necessarily mean not quality. I researched it ahead of time and went to a checkup at 3 different places to see whether they rushed me through or not. Prices here in Oklahoma varied from $1,800 per eye to $2,500 per eye, and they didn't seem to give me any more of a checkup than the discount place did. The discount place had 4 surgeons who did between 25 and 40 procedures a day, and the guy who did me had done over 16,000 of them at that time. However these are your eyes and caution is a good thing.

No way...I am not having anything done to my eyes if there are alternatives. I mean these are your eyes you're messing with. You' can't grow them back or get a new set if this screws up. That's just my take....Glasses or disposable contacts for me. Good luck to all who do it tho- I hope it works for you.

Had mine done about a year ago. Seeing great still 20/15 now. I too was worried about getting it done. Went with someone who does all the sports guys in the area. He even has other doctors come in for it. One eye hurt for about 2 hrs after it was all done but I think that was because it was relly dialated. Even with sunglasses on and my eyes closed it hurt, but I could see clearly right after it was done. Cost me $1500 for one eye, the other was free. ( I won a contest on his website)

I assume that no one with a serious problem would be here to tell us about it due to the blindness. I would like to get rid of my glasses but I'm scared of the possibility of going blind or having other problems. If the technology advances though, I might get it in a few years.

Read and read and read all about my options. As it turned out I chose PRK instead of LASIK. About 1/10th the risk. Of course the downside is that the recovery period is much longer and it's actually painful! Still things went swimmingly for me, and I have never regretted it.

1. I do full contact sports (well use to and will again) and so its not recommended that I have it done.
2. The eyes are most important sensory device I have, I'm not taking risks with them. Not even a 2% risk. 3. Whats wrong with contact lenses? They ain't that much trouble. 4. Its a silly amount of money here in the UK and I don't earn lots (public servant), but then I wouldn't do it if it was cheap. 5. Seen quite a number of horror stories about this surgery. Its not a regulated industry here. You don't even have to be a doctor or an optician to own such a business. Scary!!!! I wear glasses by day to work (I find they are better for staring at a PC all day then Contacts). I wear glasses at home (well no one sees me at home so no need for vanity). I wear contacts if I go out at night (vanity and just in case I encounter violence, unlikely as that is). |

Had it done 1 1/2 years ago after wearing contacts for 10years.
I LOVE IT! I would do it again even tho it was a pretty weird experience... kinda like going through an alien abduction or something. To the guy that asked why when you can wear contacts... 1) I got sick of poking myself in the eye first thing in the morning every morning for 10 years. 2)You can't waterski/swim with them for fear of losing one. Disposables make it less of an issue but still annoying. 3)Snowboarding/skiing they have a tendency to dry out and fall out. 4)IMO it's just healthier for your eyes than having that film over your eyes all the time. I guess it all depends on how active you are and whether you can stand wearing glasses ever. I couldn't. |
