Fortunately, I'm exempt from California's gun control laws. I can even legally carry a handgun concealed there. Same deal with DC. It's GOOD to be Tha Man!!!

How would this result in fewer law abiding citizens owning guns? If we eliminated any kind of mandatory gun safety training, the number of law abiding citizens with guns might increase, too.

Ok I could see it helping catch a stupid one....

Do we have a problem catching stupid criminals?

It would just be another market for blackmarket 'unmarked' bullets and stolen ammo (who cares about a serial number if the box is stolen).
I think the point is not only to catch stupid criminals, of which there are many, but also to provide the authorities with more information when it comes to investigating gun crimes. Stolen ammo could be traced to a specific place and time, and such information could be used in case any other information came up linking someone to that specific incident.

Inexpensive ammo for the .45 auto (which is a very popular caliber) is currently 20 cents per round where I live. Think about that for a minute, how much practice does it take to become proficient w/ a defensive weapon? At 20 cents/round this expense adds up very quickly, which is why I sold my .45. How do you propose to cover the extra expense involved in manufacturing and record keeping in order to stay in compliace with this law? Do the taxpayers pick up the bill? The gun owners? who pays for it? If the gun owners have to pick up the tab how many are going to just say forget it?

There's a chris rock joke about the potential gun crime reducing effects of making each bullet cost a million dollars...
Who picks up the bill with the government mandated car safety/emission features? Have any of those eliminated the ability to own a car for anyone who previously could afford to?

If all the gun companies, firearm and ammunition manufacturers just said, hey, cali, fuck you, ya bunch of hippy scumbags, we aint selling you ANYTHING anymore, if would bring the state to its knees. The cops would run out of bullets, and they would panic. It would hurt the manufacturers, but they'd gain a lot more in the long run.

I can see it now...California cops having to buy their ammo on the thriving black market because no ammo manufacturers will ship to Kali...

MUAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!!
