Could be a BIG no-no.
If it's anything scary-looking ( and minus the airsoft-giveaway orange tip ) someone could turn you in and land you in a LOT of hot water. It really depends on the developer; there was a case in LA a few years back where a womans' pictures of herself breastfeeding her 5-month-old son got her arrested for kiddie porn. The developer called the cops, DSS got involved, the works. |

If you are taking it into public, then you need to let the people that will be there know that their will be a fake gun used in the photo shoot. If you go around and point the thing at people expect to be visited by the police.
BTW, Brandishing firearms also applies to brandishing fake weapons. |

My suggestion? Have a conversation BEFOREHAND with the photographer, and clear it with him/her. IF they are cool with it, bring the gun to the location concealed in a box or something, not just hanging out for all too see.
Also, make sure it is an indoor shoot. If an outdoor shoot, I wouldn't recommend it at all. The gubment has everyone all whooped up and scared for their lives, not to mention the people who would love the media attention for reporting a "terrorist". Bottom line, be careful.

I wouldn't do it, ESPECIALLY in California. Besides, you'll get people paranoid about you... remember Columbine High? Those guys did a video using airsoft weapons showing how they would kill people (or something like that).
Not only that, but it makes you look bad/crazy/redneckish. If it weren't so realistic looking, it would be okay (i.e. a paintball marker). Well, for the most part, it would probably be okay to use a piantball marker. I myself would advise against it, but it's your picture... |
