My suggestion? Have a conversation BEFOREHAND with the photographer, and clear it with him/her. IF they are cool with it, bring the gun to the location concealed in a box or something, not just hanging out for all too see.
Also, make sure it is an indoor shoot. If an outdoor shoot, I wouldn't recommend it at all. The gubment has everyone all whooped up and scared for their lives, not to mention the people who would love the media attention for reporting a "terrorist".
Bottom line, be careful.
