Scoped Muzzeloader

Is it realy neccessary to spend 250$ on a leupold scope for a muzzeloader? I mean muzzeloaders cant shoot very accurate past about 100yrs. Well at least ive neva had any accurate past that. I was thinking of buying a 3-9X 40mm simmons and i though that was good enough. but some people say u need a leupold to be accurate. Just give me ur opinion !~!

Depends on the weapon. A good inline, like a Knight or Thompson-Center, can hit accurately out to 300 meters if you're pushing a magnum charge; a more traditional weapon is good out to 120-150 meters usually.
The other thing is this: a muzzleloader has a nice, slow, very even recoil because of the low pressure involved. You'll do just fine with a Simmons or BSA. Generally, when someone says "Well you need the SuperDeerSlayer 2005 to be any good!" they're a gadget-fiend who can't shoot. They're buying all these gadgets to take up the slack in their own performance and look badass. Practice, know your weapon, and practice some more; you'll be all set. Leupold scopes are wonderful, but in your case the Simmons, BSA, or Weaver rigs will do just fine.

And honestly, if 100 yards is all the range you're looking at anyway ( is it? ) you shouldn't need a scope anyway, except maybe for target-acquisition, or if you're shooting through really thick brush and need to be really precise.

modern muzzleloaders are quite accurate, I've heard reports of downing animals out to 250 yards, and magazine writers are starting to accept the greater range of modern muzzloaders over the muzzleloaders of yesteryear

I say go for it...

if you buy a 200 dollar gun you should put a 200 (or more) dollar scope on it. Thats just my opinion, but I could be right tho...

I have a TC Omega. Also a Older TC Renegade. But i am looking for a scope for the Omega. And ive neva been able to get a group better than about 3' at 100 yrds. But ive only shot about 15 shots threw my Omega. And the Renegade aint a newer gun hehe.

Go with a good BSA rig, IMO. They're good scopes for the cash, rugged, and accurate. There are also some Russki scopes out there now using Dragunov-style reticles on Picatinny mounts that I'm awfully fond of, although I can't remember the name right now. Those're only about $110, but they're absolutely unbreakable.

I like "good" i.e. expensive optics just as much as anyone else, but honestly, the bushnell, BSA, and other inexpensive scopes I use have worked just fine for me.

I have a cheap Bushnell 1.5x4.5 that cost around $70 when I bought it about 3 years ago. Surprisingly, it has held up well under the stress. It gets dragged up and down tree stands. banged off trees, been stepped on and shook to pieces everytime the trigger is pulled on my T/C Encore 50 caliber. It's still pretty well dead on out to at least 200 yds.. I don't think I would want to spend a shitload of cash on a scope just to abuse it. If your just gonna go to the range or out back to shoot occasionly then spend the money, but if your going to be hunting just buy a decent mid-priced scope, it's much less gut-wrenching when it's accidently abused.
