Linux server question
I almost have my server running! I used the XAMPP package, which is a type of LAMP stack, and can access my sites locally (ie localhost) and can also access them via the subdomain assigned to the machine.
However, I cannot access the site remotely - from within the same subnet nor a differnet ISP altogether. Anything I need to set on Linux to let the pages get served remotely? Is it a permissions thing? |

What's the connection? Is the host on an internal private address? If so, does your router forward port 80 (and whatever else) to your private host?

If you're not in control of the routing or other connection hardware then it's probably something to ask them. I don't know the situation, but it's common for schools to default to blocking incoming connections. Hosting eats bandwidth and is often abused or mismanaged. If it were my wire I'd require a written agreement and your first born child.

Can you ping the IP address? If not, they yeah, it's a gateway or routing issue. If you can ping it, then they are denying certain ports on incoming connections.
