help, please.
what's a good wireless router? right now i have a linksys 802.11b router, but it sucks. everyone keeps saying linksys is good (or one of the best) for routers, so i'm just hoping that this router is for linksys what windows ME was for Microsoft and nothing more. i've looked online for another one, but honestly i don't know where to start in terms of quality...

ok, so i'm on amazon.com lookin for a new router, when i came across this review of the router i'm using now. it pretty much sums up all the problems i'm having (note: the caps came with the review):

...everything this guy said is pretty much true for me, especially the first one, but not the ground slamming part (although i'm pretty damn close) i read another review that said something about upgrading firmware...i have no idea what that is, but the reviewer said it solved her problem with her router. i looked on the linksys site and found a "firmware" link for the router i'm using, but i don't kow how to update. it's a ".bin" file...

Generally, when it comes to firmware updates, you download the file onto your hard drive from the manufacturer's site, and then go into your router webmin, and you then point to the file on your HDD and it should work right then and there. Sometimes you have to restart your router.

"firmware" is the software in the product.
The bin file is the updated software for the device. On the page providing the update should be instructions on how to install the update. Note any warnings. Be careful, read the directions fully. |
