Problem : iPOD Freeze UP
I Love my 20GB iPOD but mine has locked up twice
since I bought it. This condition has the MP3 player frozen with the backlight on and nothing I do will move the unit to turn off or play any music. When the battery runs down, it shuts off and after charging , everything is fine again. Seems it happens when I try to play a pre-programed game. Does any one have a similar experience or should I try and get my iPOD checked out? ![]() |

My 40 gig IPod has done that once... while attached to the Bose Sounddock.... I had just hit the remote to advance to the next song.. nd it locked up... had no choice but to disconnect it - let the battery drain.. recharge it - - and it hasn't done it since...

i have had it happen several times.. not sure why exactly, but a way you can reset it without letting it fully discharge is if you have the AC adapter handy, plug it into the wall socket and press and hold Menu and the middle Button for a few seconds.. This will reset your ipod (no loss of data).. that way you can quickly start back up again.. If you are away from a wall socket then I think you are just sol.

Muckluck, there isn't a reset button on the new ipods (at least not on mine, 4G). The two buttons that I referred to is considered the way to reset it. However, it must be plugged into the wall for it to work when locked up (or at all..?)...
The first time my ipod locked up I checked out the manual and found this "trick" just in case of a lock up.

When this happens to you, it's best to use the disk that came with your iPod and do a complete restore on it. Note that this will wipe off all the music/files/whatever else you have on there, but there are ways of getting those things off beforehand...
Anyhow, use the utility, load it back up, if it happens again hope that it is under warranty still and take it in. There are a few sites on the web that show you how to get to a harddrive test for the iPod, but i've found it doesn't always find everyone's problems. Good luck! |

My recently purchased iPod Mini 4 GB locked up like that once, backlite on, had to drain the battery. I didn't know about any kind of reset at the time. I think the cause was the fact that I didn't disconnect the iPod through XP properly. I just yanked the cable out. Since then I disconnect through XP before actually unplugging my iPod. I have had no lockups since.
