they are usually pretty good about keeping you roped in... While I have verizon... I would imagine if you get one of their new phones that uses sprint cell service and nextel 2 way.... then you should be in decent shape...

Itching to break your contract eh, no you can't break your contract unless your provider (nextel I assume) changes your service plan without your approval. Even then you have to cancel within so many days of the change to get out of the contract without the fee. You can also break the contract for no fee if they change the terms of service and you can no longer agree to the terms, also the cancellation time is limited. As far as sprint and nextel merging you had to show how you can't do business with them because of the merger, things like conflict of interest for business qualify, but they are already merged and have been merged so cancellation time for that is up.
I can't stress enough read your contracts before you sign them. Legal people know that 95% of people won't read a lengthy contract so they aren't concerned with objectionable things being in it so long as it mainly protects the interest of the company paying the legal person to write it up. If it was a shady company you could be signing your house or car over to them. |

I tought mabe the contract would be like when cingular bought out att, and att users could cancel with out a fee. I just thin sprint had better prices, and i would rather use those prices now than what i have nextel currently sorry tired so this might not sound right

Most Nextel contracts are 2 years and are $200 to get out of early, however i don't know for sure that yours is that way.
If you just got the letter, check the letter and see what it says about your ability to cancel. Also, try calling the customer service. Always ask to speek with a supervisor if the first person you get doesn't sound too sure of themselves - they might just not know! I'm waiting for the merger to produce some new kind of service from either name, or a new one... I've liked some nextel features and some sprint features, but not enough to buy one or the other's service. The merger could just do it for me! |

read over your contract... you should be able to get out of it because of the merger. Many ATT and Cingular customers were able to break their contracts because of that merger.
Find your contract and read it carefully.

ATT and Cingular didn't merge, cingular bought out ATT and basically killed it. Sprint and Nextel are currently a merged company but operate separately due to the fact that the networks are incompatiable. So for anyone looking for sprint pricing with nextel type service or some intermingled crap like that, you can forget it. Sprint and Nextel will develop a merged network (likely based on sprints CDMA crap) for a new line of Sprint/Nextel phone, not sure how soon that will be but that's what they are working on.
