Display Mode Assistance

I normally have my monitor settings set to "True Color, 1024 x 768". However, when I want to play most games, especially those I have downloaded, it seems as though they will not display on my monitor. When I start the program, it runs and it shows in my taskbar but will not show on the screen. When I try to reopen the window, the screen turns black, flickers, then goes back to the desktop. I've tried adjusting my settings to various options and nothing works.

I have an HP Pavillion computer running XP home and using an HP Pavillion f1503 monitor. My graphics controller shows Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV. (Don't ask me what it means, if I knew that I wouldn't be asking questions here).

Any suggestions?

- update your drivers! You can find the drivers for your adapter on Intel's site: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...?ProductID=865

- Intel has a list with games that are not working on your 82845G Graphics Controller. This list is unupdated, but it doesn't hurt to take a look:

-You have an on-board graphics controller with 64MB shared memory. This memory allocation can be changed in the BIOS (it can be set to 64 (max) and down to 8 or 16). You can easy check how much shared memory is allocated to your video adapter by going in XP to start > run > type in: 'dxdiag' (without the quotes) and go to the display tab. If it say 64 MB as memory, then you are set, if it say less, post a reply and we talk you through the next step.

- check the minimum specs for the game. Can your hardware run it? Your video adaptor probably isn't listed in most compatibility lists of most games, but the performance can be compared to a Geforce 4 MX 440. If this card isn't supported, your adapter isn't either.

The arm with the sword rose up as if newly stretched aloft, and round the figure blew the free winds of heaven.”

1. I updated my driver. No change in the game performance (or lack of).

2. I checked the list, the game is not listed.

3. Checked the memory setting. It is set to 64MB.

4. I couldn't find much about the minimum specs for the game as it was a download off downloads.com (via Earthlink). I can tell you that it works on almost all Windows OS including XP, takes only 9.71 MB and graphic modes for both 1027 x 768 and 800 x 600 are supported. Here is a link to the download if it will help.
