Looking for webhost.
I am looking for a webhost that will support multiple domains or is super cheap.
Looking for 2+gigs of space, 15 gb bandwidth, sql server, asp.net. I have 3 domains and don't really want to spend $15-20 a piece. Know of any host to fit my needs? Thanks. |

Have you tried searching on Google? "web hosting" on google brings back around 18.7 million hits. Surely one will fit your needs.
If you're going to be using SQL server from Microsoft to work with ASP, then you're going to pay a little more than if you were using say MySQL and PHP. Reason? Licensing. You might try, GoDaddy, Rackspace, Verio, NetNation and Axigent; just to name a few.

I don't think I'm allowed to plug my company's site so email me if you would like to check it out.

For your perusal:
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/index.php? It's like TFP, but for hosts and admins. Pick one or two hosts and do a search there to see what people think. |

If you're really looking to go cheap, have you considered hosting it yourself? The cable providers in my area are starting to offer 1-2Mbit upload speeds and 6Mbit download speeds on commercial accounts for around $300/mo. This is even faster than a T1!! Depending on how involved you want to get, you could even have the bandwidth pay for itself by running your own small hosting service. Allow two or three other sites on your box/bandwidth and charge them $50-$100/mo to help offset your cost of hardware and bandwidth. Plus, to top it all off, the downstream pipe is gravy! You get the huge download pipe almost exclusively for your own use!

Skaven: he wants asp and MSSQL. Have you ever priced MSSQL and the server needed to run it on (depending on the queries)?
Our MSSQL server is 4way XEON 2.6Ghz with 2mb of cache on them, 8 gigs of ram and six 73gig SCSI 15k drives in three RAID 1 arrays.

So far, no cable providers I have spoken to do that here. Comcast and Wide Open West in my area both offer 512 or less (still waiting to hear back from Wide Open West on prices). I tried SpeakEasy dsl, since they had a 6000/768 connection with 8 statics and they allow you to run whatever you want. Unfortunitly, I am 11k feet from the DSLAM and for whatever reason can only guarentee me 1500/768 for $100 a month. A bit costly when (since posting this thread) I can get a "reseller" package for $30/mo for 10 domains, 2gig hd, 20gigs transfer per month. As for becoming a host, I'd LOVE to, but the reality of it is you need office space with redundant power and most customers would want close to 95+% uptime which requires 2 pipes. Then you have machinery and you have to go leagal on software, and in my case, that software is MS Windows and SQL Server. Neither are cheap. If people find out you are running it in your laundry room with a cable connection, they might get miffed ![]() |

I'm using "1and1.com" for my site I'm building as an experiment for work. It is EXTREMELY professional and very well organized. If they support all the formats/extensions you need, you can't go wrong. I know they support/provide MySQL and PHP, as I'm using those now. Give them a look. My site I built (using their website creator) is HCA - Richmond PACS

How's their tech support? One of the big reasons I dumped Verio is because there was a language barrier with their tech support department. |
