Plasma TV problems ?
Hi, has anyone got a plasma tv that has developed faults ?
What kind of faults, and did they get repaired. Was paying for repair worth it ? Just wondering as I have a first generaton (4 year old) 50-inch plasma that has just developed a 1-inch thick band across the screen about 4 inches from the bottom. Now, I find my brain filters the band out after a while. I feel like living with it for another year and then replacing as prices are falling fast... ![]() |

Prices are falling m8.Not sure where you are, I just purchased the new lg 42 inch with dvd recorder. Very impressed although one or two little niggles but hey was a lot cheaper than the Hitachi or Pioneer i was looking at.

My wife is an architect, and plasma displays have been put in most of the homes she has recently completed. She has her clients go through a full service home theatre specialist as they are already wiring the houses under construction. Every client has had "the talk" from their manager. The talk is there to make sure that the client understands the finite life span of ALL plasma displays. The life span is getting better, but he wants to make it clear that you are not going to come back in 3 years and expect them to give you a free replacement.
I suspect that when you buy a display from a commissioned sales person at most stores this information is not conveyed. Such is life on the bleeding edge. |

The lifespan and burn-in problems people always complain of are usually exaggerated. I have seen a lot of differnet tvs and there is no subsitute for Plamsa. Nothing looks even close to as good except for LCD but they are way to expensive still.
Either way 4 years is too long to own the same tv. Just go get a new one! |

Anyway, yeah, this is a normal thing to happen to plasma televisions, as well as burn-in. They all have lifespans. |

I've seen and heard so many contrasting opinions on the lifespan of plasma TV's I don't even put credit in any of them. These are opinions of representatives of Pioneer, Fujitsu, and Runco. I have determined that NO ONE knows how long a plasma will last at this point.
