Xaser III Case Question
I have the Thermaltake Xaser III V1000D series, with the 7 80mm fans. I was curious, though..since the ones on the side (that pull heat away from the CPU and any cards plugged in) clip in, could 90mm fans be put in there instead? Not necessarily planning to do this, but I was just wondering if it was possible in case I decide to in the future.
As an afterthought, if the side 80mm's can be changed to a bigger fan, can any of the others without any cutting in the frame? Thanks. |

No. Any case that has clips in it can only accept one size fan. Why would you want 90 mm fans anyway? The holes are the same size, so more air won't go through. The only benefit I can see is that they'll be quiter (they tend to run at a lower RPM), but this can be accomplished by lowering the RPM of the 80 mm fans with a controller or getting smart fans, anyway. If you do want bigger fans, and you do cut the case (which you'd have to), I would recommend 120 mm. They will be able to push the same amount of air at a much lower RPM, meaning a much quiter case.
And a side note... shouldn't the fans on the side be pointing in? That way cool air goes onto the processor and graphics card then gets sucked out the back with everything else. That's how mine is set up, and it stays cooler than if I flip that fan around. |

Well, the way it seems to be set up (and I haven't flipped anything around) is that there are 2 80s on the front pulling air in, one 80 on the top that seems to blow air out, 2 80s on the side that seem to blow air out, and 2 80s in the back that blow air out. The only reason I asked about the clipped ones on the side was because there seems to be some wiggle room there, in that the clip don't really clamp down like a steel trap on the fans. But since I'm not really looking to change out the fans anyway, it's not a big deal.
Thanks for the answer. And you were right, the 2 side fans do in fact blow into the case, not out of it. Last edited by wombatman; 10-22-2004 at 12:04 PM.. |
