DVD player doesn't recognize some DVD's.

So this isn't the largest problem, but I've been without a TV for a while since I recently moved into my new apartment.

I just rented two new-releases at Blockbuster and I cannot play them on my computer. It's not my software because the drive icon doesn't even see that there's a disk in the drive. I get the error "Please insert a disk into Drive:x" when I try to hit play in PowerDVD.

My drive is a decent Pioneer but is about 4 years old. My drive plays some DVD's, but not others. What gives? Is there a full-proof way around this?

my first move would be to hunt up another DVD player / drive and see if they work in it. If not, it's probably a junk disc.

A friend of mine had the same problem. It turned out that his computer's DVD player didn't support dual layered disc. Try the disc on a friend's DVD player to make sure nothing is wrong with it first.

I highly doubt the problems are with the disks. Numerous dvd's don't work on it.

Can virtually all DVD players suppord dual layered disks now?

Thanks guys

Yes. Most, if not all, new DVD players support dual layered discs.
